Qatar Salaries Highest in Region

The National reports that Qatar tops salary list as UAE payrises fall

Professionals in Qatar make more money than their counterparts in any other country in the Middle East, knocking the UAE off the top spot it has commanded for the past year.

More than a third of Qatar’s white-collar workers, or 39 per cent, earn between US$3,001 (Dh11,000) and $8,000 each month, higher than the UAE, where 37 per cent earn between those levels, according to research by the employment website Bayt.com, in conjunction with the polling company YouGov Siraj.

Does that mean you're all overpaid or that the cost of living is just higher?

French world record in Doha!

My French friends were obviously delirious with joy. This 20-year-old athlete's event was the final competition on the final day of the IAAF World Indoor Championships.

He broke the world record in men's triple jump, on his final attempt of the final competition of the day. I was there (although these pictures are from the web). What a performance. I'm sure we'll hear more about him in the coming days.

Congratulations, France. You had to wait until the final minute for a gold medal. But what a gold medal it was.

Why French is necessary on QBS FM radio

From 1 pm till 4 pm, french transmission is on air on QBS radio FM 97.5, while driving I tuned on my radio and i was insane, i couldnot understand a single word. Why it is necessary to air in french, how many people in doha are french listeners. And if it is very necessary for a linguistic harmony among different nationalities then why not couple of hours should be dedicated for hindi/urdu transmission, I guess, Hindi/urdu listeners club is a widespread majority in qatar(Indians,Pakistanis and Nepalis) and above all, QBS will earn a huge amount of revenue in terms of advertisement. What is your say on it?

Fanar sets record

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Fanar has set a world record with the biggest gilding painting in the world. In the middle of the painting the words ‘Mus’haf Qatar’ are written to celebrate the launch of Mus’haf Qatar, the special edition of the Qur’an set in calligraphy.

According to the specifications for an entry into the Guinness World Record, the
painting had to be 6m long and the
coverage of gold paper 55% of the surface.
Choctan brothers, the creative artists, used more than 2,500 pieces of gold paper in the record-breaking feat.
Preparing the painting took 15 days, with the gilding work completed in 40 hours.

AL Khor AIR SHOW 2010.....Saturday 13th March 2010

The publicity for this event has been almost non existent as far as the expat community is concerned.

All members of the General Public are invited to the second day of the event on Saturday 13th of march. My concern is that most people are unaware that an air show is taking place in Al Khor this weekend.

Has there been any publicity in the local arabic press for this event?

Athletics World Indoor Championships /-a-t-/ ASPIRE

In Qatar, athletics does not get bigger than this. The IAAF World Indoor Championships is running at the ASPIRE Academy from March 12 to 14. Just check out some of the athletes who are going to compete in Doha. Come on, pack your bags and head to ASPIRE. It is going to be a ball.

Tickets cost QR10 for each of the five sessions (10X5 = QR50 for three days of world-class action). Tickets can be purchased from Virgin Megastores at Villaggio.

When you say 'World Indoor Championship'...

...does this mean I'm gonna pull the high jump competition inside the room? Or we gonna make do gymnastics on the stair balustrade? Or we gonna do swimming competition in the bathtub?

Or maybe we all gonna do it on just the good ol' Nintendo Wii while we sit on the couch?

LOL! Rather watch the real event these 3 days and enjoy!

Happy Thursday everyone! ;-)
