Qatari Henna
By Haitha on Mon, 19/06/2006 - 1:11pmI am looking for information on Qatari Henna. Authentic types of patterning, symbols or designs that would be used by traditional Qatari's. If anyone has any information or knows of a good Henna artist, please reply.

Lunch Delivery
By Haitha on Mon, 19/06/2006 - 1:06pmI am looking for a sandwich lady that I met once in Salam Tower. She was from Australia or New Zealand. She took orders in the morning and delivered around lunch time home made sandwiches to offices. If anyone knows of her contact information I would like to give her some additional business. Thanks

Transportation in Doha -- Bus Service, etc.
By Ferrin on Mon, 19/06/2006 - 2:06amCan anyone tell me about the new bus service in Doha? Are the buses comfortable and well air-conditioned? How crowded--can you always get a seat? Do the routes run all over the city? And do the buses run on time?
I'm asking about this because my husband is thinking of shipping over his motorcycle when we move to Doha. I've heard on this board that riding a motorcycle is a bad idea in Doha (unsafe). His employer will give a car allowance but we will need another vehicle since our son, daughter-in-law and grandbaby will be living with us. Our son will need transportation to attend 2 different universities and my husband and I will have jobs to get to. Will bus service be practical for getting around town or had we better bring that darn motorcycle? I heard that there's a shortage of taxis--is that true?

35-km Airconditioned Cycling Path in Qatar from Doha Centre-Corniche-QU in 2007?
By laudgi7 on Sun, 18/06/2006 - 12:02pmHas anyone heard about this?
Having air-conditioned cycling. Do you think it will ruin the corniche though? Will there be enough use by people?

Make up and such like
By lachalla on Tue, 13/06/2006 - 11:09amHello ladies,
Anyone already out there tell me the availability of brands like Clarins, La Prairie (I know in Dubai this is much cheaper than UK so I'm living in hope of Qatar..), Chanel and Aveda (haircare) - I can bring supplies or I can shop there. I know it's a bit sad but I do like my girly things :-)

New In Qatar: Child Health
By tg on Mon, 12/06/2006 - 10:42amHere is an info which new arrivals may find informative (Oldies would yawn)...
You have just arrived new and haven't had a chance to talk to your colleagues other than sweet smiles..and You have no idea about health cards..no resident permits..and too bad!! Your child is sick and wont sleep at night...Its rude to call new colleagues at 2:00 AM...
What do you do?? Call 45 88888 and get a taxi and ask him to drop you at "Emergency Child Care" at Al-Sadd Signal (Newly Installed) Its really 24 X 7 So you dont have to worry...Even at those early hours you will find it full of worried parents..

Some questions about Qatar (visas, misc.)
By Kireihana on Mon, 12/06/2006 - 5:25amI'm a female student travelling to Qatar this week from Canada, for 4 days. I have a few questions for the locals. Sorry if they're answered elsewhere, but it's my first time travelling overseas and I'm not sure if I'm entirely prepared.
1) I heard something about needing to purchase a Tourist Visa once I arrive in Qatar. Do I get this in the airport on arrival, or what? Can I pay with US cash?

Israel Score 7 on World Cup Eve
By camper on Sun, 11/06/2006 - 11:57pmIt's a sad world we live in. Have a look here.
"Yes, seven (and still counting)! The seven goals include three children and two women. More than 40 injuries are in hospital, some are critical.
New war crimes by the Terrorist State of Israel and its gang called Israel Terrorist Forces."

Insects, pests, dangers at beach?
By Ferrin on Sun, 11/06/2006 - 9:08pmI was wondering what types of insects live in Doha. I figured that mosquitoes would not be problem because of the desert. True? Also are scorpions a problem in the city or only in rural areas? What about roaches and mice/rats? Fireants?
What about at the beaches? I read in a book that the marine animals in Qatari waters are so dangerous that a lot of people don't go in the water. It mentioned dragonfish, stonefish, sea snakes, and jellyfish. It said that stonefish are found in shallow waters and if you step one, the poison is strong enough to kill you. This worries me especially since our little grandchild will want to play at the beach.
