Under the title ‘Sponsorship System - Consequences and Solutions’ Qatar University organized a workshop in which the academics spoke about the conditions of expatriate workers in Qatar and presented suggestions regarding the transfer of sponsorship of the residents of the State. A number of people who were interested in the Labour Law and the law of sponsorship attended the programme. The speakers stressed that the sponsorship system made labourers subject to compulsory work and highlighted the need for the Labour Law to fit with the international standards, whereas the participants pointed out the existence of a gap between the Labour Law and Sponsorship Act.

We found a rental house through a QL ad from an agent. We called the agent and he transferred us to another person to see the house. We met the owner, rented the house, and the owner paid the agent fee. The guy who showed us the house tried to get us to also pay an agent fee, and even came to our house to intimidate us to collect. We had to threaten him to call the police and report him to his employer.

Warning, do not let these guys threaten you. Call the owner and tell him you are being harassed, and he will put a stop to them.

I've looked at some old threads about best/worst banks but didnt see anything current.
Does anyone know of a bank that doesn't charge annual fees on credit cards and/or debit cards? easy to deal with and the least amount of hidden charges?
I'm currently with CBQ and honestly I dont have too many complaints, they do have an annual fees for credit cards but not for debit cards. As of recent no banks except QIB and QIIB are allowed to offer islamic financing for cars. If this is correct, does anyone know if I can get a car loan without actually switching my account?
I've done the obvious (called the bank directly a couple of times) but unfortunately got different answers :) each time, hence the confusion.

Two get jail term over theft charges
The criminal court in Doha has sentenced two Asians to one year in imprisonment and ordered deportation at the end of the prison term on charges of theft, says a report in the local Arabic daily al-Sharq.
