Fire at City Center Mall

Dear Qlers it has been notified via Twitter (/-a-t-/Dohanews) that there was a "fire" in City center Mall this morning. A big crowd was looking at the fire/emergency trucks arriving on site to address the situation.

After a full evacuation the all clear was given at around 10:40 am in order to have everybody back to "normal" duties.

Has anyone been there or close as to get details on which area was affected due to this incident.

Regards!!

Baby Bro coming to Qatar :)

Hi everyone,

So I bought my baby bro a plane ticket to come and see me on the 4th April here in Qatar for his 18th birthday. I want to let him have the best time here. He hasn't been abroad since he was 1 year old!

I have an idea of places I want to take him but was just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on here where or what else I can do with him? I have just realised that he wont get into many clubs or events as he is under 21 but I'm sure there is still lots he can do.

Anyway thanks in advance!!

What is wrong with the furniture here?

Posted in:

With some trepidation, I went shopping for new lamps for my house (kinda forced to as after 2 years, I have finally thrown in the towel with the normal overhead lights as the light bulbs blow about every 2 weeks, which according to our maintenance people is normal and nothing to do with the wiring - but that is another story)

Another one bites the dust

OMG! I just moved to Doha, and slept next to an open window, as I always do if the weather allows; this morning I see there is a layer of dust aveywhere in the room; the worst is that my baby is sleeping with us in her cot. We won't last here is we can't find a solution for this problem. I urgently need to buy some type of air filter. Please advise where and what to buy!

Temperature may drop to 4°C today

http://www.thepenins...

DOHA: The weather bureau has forecast a sudden and substantial drop in temperature to as low as four to six degrees Celsius for later this evening and said strong and chilly winds would blow across from the colder regions in the north-west.

The wind speed could go up to 20 to 40 knots an hour and could be dusty at places, the bureau said in a press statement issued last evening.

The chilly and windy weather conditions would last at least 48 hours beginning later this evening and the situation could begin to show some improvement from Tuesday morning as the wind speed slow down.

food critics?

Posted in:

Like many people in here, I love food. I train so much to be in shape and be able to enjoy anything I want to have without worrying about getting fat or having health issues and so far so good.

The reason I am writing this is because, aside from Arabic and Indian foods in here, most of the cuisines suffer to a great deal and this is mainly because of bringing in the wrong chefs and assigning them tasks they can't handle.

Let me start with

Pizza: Everyone has their own taste in food but a good pizza is not a 4 inch thick crust with 100 toppings on it including shrimps, meat, chicken or a combination of those three things together. A good pizza is a SIMPLE pizza with 2 or 3 toppings at most!

Schooling dilemma

Like so many others we are looking for a school in Doha for our 2 boys aged 7 and 4. Although my husband starts work in April in Doha we have applied for schools starting in September and myself and the boys are staying in Dubai until the summer before we move across and join him.

We applied for DESS and Doha College as first preferences, but also to Park House, Doha British School and Compass as we soon realized how difficult it is to get into schools.

Compass have come back to us with a place for our youngest for September as they are extending their Rayyaan campus. They have intonated that a place should be available for our older son too as they are working through applications year by year.

Life in Doha with toddler

Good evening to everybody, we are moving to Doha in April and I am staying at home with our daughter of 17 months. I was wondering if you can tell me how is life with a toddler in such a hot country? Here she likes outdoors so much, I cannot imagine how it is done in such a heat. What do you mums do all day to keep them occupied? Is it better to leave to Europe in the summer? Thanks so much
