Latest news from Qatar

I wanna buy a car...help me choose.
I've just moved in to Qatar and need to buy a car. I am young and single and need an auto that says just that. Something that is sporty and hip but not too much of a headache. My first choices were the Dodge Challenger, Ford Mustang Bullit and the Jeep Wrangler X but people tell me Dodges, Fords and other American cars are too much maintenance. So now am thinking FX 35(AWD), Nissan Murano or FJ Cruiser. All the Jap coupes (Altima, Accord) are neat but FWD (not a big fan)and the 350Z is a two seater (need more space). As you can see I am kinda confused so help me out all of you. I need the combined infinite wisdom and experience of the Forum. Thank you. ;)

Hi xpressodoc. It looks like everyone has an opinion for you here, but not necessarily the right one for you and what you want. SUVs are great for Doha, but I understand you wanted to find a coupe? If you choose American new or at least still under warranty, you should find it both reliable and covered if anything does happen. The problem with American cars is not the reliability anymore, but resale value. Their resale values can be dismal when you choose to leave, unless you have a particularly popular model that's in demand. Here's an interesting article about used car values, although for SUVs: http://www.qatardealers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7 So you can go with the Jeep or with an American coupe, but there are a couple of other coupes that come to mind. How about the Infiniti G37? If the 350Z is too small, the G37 at least comes with a back row of seats. And it's RWD like you wanted. Another One I can think of is the BMW One Series, which I believe is RWD. Quite fun to drive. Best of luck with your search. Answered on Sat, 22/11/2008 - 2:40am

I think the FJ cruiser is a car that says just what you are trying to say... gives you the image of someone who is outgoing and likes to have some fun... We can all agree that the looks don't please everyone, but it makes a statement... And I recommend that car because it won't hard to resale after and the maintenance is reasonable... It's funny to read all the comments about resale value and maintenance on american Cars, usually form people that do not have a clue about what they are talking about. Buy your american Sports Car, OK resale value isn't as good as a Toyota I admit that- but it is not bad. Why only think about Resale value, why not think about the fun you will have driving an american Car. It is so much more rewarding than driving a Rice Cooker. Answered on Sat, 22/11/2008 - 9:54am

Test drive report for toyota FJ Another major issue is the blind spot of rear seat window didn't allow you to feel (see) if there is a car RIGHT NEXT to you while driving...hope you understand what i mean, the side rear mirror's blind spot is those car driving 1.5 - 3 meters behind you. Its all because of the small tiny window they tried to mock from H3. Finally, the funky rear door (half size one) is really difficult to shut and the front seat passenger always need to open the door for back seat pax to get in and out. otherwise it won't open. Huh!?!? The Land Cruiser VX has had a V8 for as long as I can remember and it's a lot smoother than any American V8 I know. My concern with American cars is build quality. They still can't get it right except in the Aussie built ones ;o) Answered on Sat, 22/11/2008 - 7:53am

hi there how are you ??? whatever you can get may not be the right choice ,,,, paying too much for new cars may make you face the difficulties of depreciation .... so i recommend you to buy a used Chev SS Lumina ... you can find a very nice price and if you use it probarly it will suit you.. since it is australian made (another name is Holden komodor in australia) and it is suitable for high tempreture..... and if you like i have a lumina 2006 as Brand new 22000 kim only i am thinking to sell it ,, but for you if you like to take close idea it will be nice to check it for your information and not necessary for buying it but ss is more sporty and very agressive more than others regards Answered on Sat, 22/11/2008 - 9:32am

KIA is the best option. Cheap & affordable. After Sales Service is good, not too much headache. Only 1 hour needed for oil change without any prior appointment. Resale might be a problem, but i seen an increase of KIA on the road :P Answered on Sat, 22/11/2008 - 9:56am
