I wanna buy a car...help me choose.

I wanna buy a car...help me choose.

I've just moved in to Qatar and need to buy a car. I am young and single and need an auto that says just that. Something that is sporty and hip but not too much of a headache. My first choices were the Dodge Challenger, Ford Mustang Bullit and the Jeep Wrangler X but people tell me Dodges, Fords and other American cars are too much maintenance. So now am thinking FX 35(AWD), Nissan Murano or FJ Cruiser. All the Jap coupes (Altima, Accord) are neat but FWD (not a big fan)and the 350Z is a two seater (need more space). As you can see I am kinda confused so help me out all of you. I need the combined infinite wisdom and experience of the Forum. Thank you. ;)

Hi xpressodoc. It looks like everyone has an opinion for you here, but not necessarily the right one for you and what you want. SUVs are great for Doha, but I understand you wanted to find a coupe? If you choose American new or at least still under warranty, you should find it both reliable and covered if anything does happen. The problem with American cars is not the reliability anymore, but resale value. Their resale values can be dismal when you choose to leave, unless you have a particularly popular model that's in demand. Here's an interesting article about used car values, although for SUVs: http://www.qatardealers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7

So you can go with the Jeep or with an American coupe, but there are a couple of other coupes that come to mind. How about the Infiniti G37? If the 350Z is too small, the G37 at least comes with a back row of seats. And it's RWD like you wanted.

Another One I can think of is the BMW One Series, which I believe is RWD. Quite fun to drive.

Best of luck with your search.

I think the FJ cruiser is a car that says just what you are trying to say... gives you the image of someone who is outgoing and likes to have some fun... We can all agree that the looks don't please everyone, but it makes a statement... And I recommend that car because it won't hard to resale after and the maintenance is reasonable...

It's funny to read all the comments about resale value and maintenance on american Cars, usually form people that do not have a clue about what they are talking about. Buy your american Sports Car, OK resale value isn't as good as a Toyota I admit that- but it is not bad. Why only think about Resale value, why not think about the fun you will have driving an american Car. It is so much more rewarding than driving a Rice Cooker.
There are also some comments on QL about expensive Spare Parts for American Cars, but that is also a myth.
Buy yourself a Bullitt(must be Dark Green of course) or a Mustang GT and be happy

Test drive report for toyota FJ
I am not expert but FJ pretty disappointed me and my friend who just brought a new one. Acceleration is bad, maybe this 4x4 is extreme safe, but the speed-dial only shows you 180km/h maximum means WHAT? We drove on the way to North of qatar the other cruisers just let our FJ covering in dust not able to chase up.

Another major issue is the blind spot of rear seat window didn't allow you to feel (see) if there is a car RIGHT NEXT to you while driving...hope you understand what i mean, the side rear mirror's blind spot is those car driving 1.5 - 3 meters behind you. Its all because of the small tiny window they tried to mock from H3.

Finally, the funky rear door (half size one) is really difficult to shut and the front seat passenger always need to open the door for back seat pax to get in and out. otherwise it won't open.

Are you all kidding!!!
who advice for toyota!!!
you will spend the rest of your life in the service line, second can`t you guys see that he already hate front wheel drive means he like rear wheel drive (American is the best in that field 10th came Japanese & nothing in between no releability at all)wake up PPl before it`s too late, for prove or self test go check for Durango drive test.
P.S toyota Failed in the V6 so they make new GXR with a V8 cause car was toooooo much heavy for the Weak V6(Imagine a Japanese V8)HAHAHAHAAAAA ;D

Dear Friend
i`ve to till you the truth when you have an american car you will not be able to even try anything else & you will go from american car to another american car it`s much more than just a car,you will love to go anywhere just to drive your baby,by the way i got lumina ss since 2005 & i only spent 1200 q.r for some upgrades plus regular service till now& the car is 95 % after 3 years (of my driving).but my advice is to go for Durango SUV still the best choice you can compare through internet, don`t buy a Japanese cars cause it got only many buttons inside cause it`s always a good option only for grandpa.

Huh!?!? The Land Cruiser VX has had a V8 for as long as I can remember and it's a lot smoother than any American V8 I know. My concern with American cars is build quality. They still can't get it right except in the Aussie built ones ;o)

Never buy Americans cars coz they are having huge maintenance charge and low resale value.
I suggest you to buy Infinity FX35 because it's nice looking and the resale price is also good
and also it will give you the pleasant driving opportunity in the Qatar’s road!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

hi there how are you ???

whatever you can get may not be the right choice ,,,,

paying too much for new cars may make you face the difficulties of depreciation .... so i recommend you to buy a used Chev SS Lumina ... you can find a very nice price and if you use it probarly it will suit you.. since it is australian made (another name is Holden komodor in australia) and it is suitable for high tempreture.....

and if you like i have a lumina 2006 as Brand new 22000 kim only i am thinking to sell it ,, but for you if you like to take close idea it will be nice to check it for your information and not necessary for buying it but ss is more sporty and very agressive more than others

regards

Dear Friend

Go for durango it`s 5.7 Hemi 350 HP wounderful acceleration & Seaters DVD, Rear Camira, much space than you can think, meet the charger & Mustang on the high way & see how they look Slow to you but keep away from black Phantom Lumina ss cause nothing like my Baby.it`s just 103000 Q.R from agency (remember for the road like doha you need a 4x4 nothing less),spare parts are available & also fuel economy Check over the web please & compare it to any(then judge yourself).

KIA is the best option. Cheap & affordable. After Sales Service is good, not too much headache. Only 1 hour needed for oil change without any prior appointment.

Resale might be a problem, but i seen an increase of KIA on the road :P

Get your self a 4 wheel drive. A must here. Also it will let you get out of the city and not be dependant on others to take you.
Japanese cars are the best here. Toyota & Nissan.
Take your pick from any of those!
