ADSL line does not support fax. You need a dial-up-modem and software on your system or you can use fax services provided by service providers like efax.

You can u Windows fax, you do not need to Have ADSL.
Just plug your phone line into your PC.
Run Windows fax.

Where should you plug your phoneline into the PC if you have ASDL? There is no modem in the PC?

So, in other words it is not possible to send and receive faxes with an ASDL line unless you have an old fashioned modem in your computer?

To clear some things up for everyone

There are 2 ways to send/receive a fax

A) THE OLD FASHION WAY

This way, you must have a 56K Dial up modem built into your PC, if you have a laptop more than likley you will have one, if its a new desktop then the chances are slim, but they are cheap to buy and install.

You plug the phone line into the phone socket, and into the back of the modem on your computer.

You then must have fax software installed. However Windows provides fax software you just need to install it.
HOWEVER to install the microsoft fax software you WILL need the windows installation CD so that it can get the relavent installation files off the disk.
To install it you go to start> settings > control panel> add remove programs and select windows components, and then it will be in a tick list, tick it and select ok. And then it will start to install, and ask for the disk.

B) THE MODERN WAY

The modern way is you can send/receive faxes through the internet, you have to sign up to an internet faxing account, and you have to pay for it, by adding credit in order to send a fax.

E.g

http://www.rapidfax....

However there are many free services out there, you just have to google them, and research the good from the bad.

Hope this helps
