Is 24,000 riyals a month enough to live
Hi all,
Have a question if you could help. Ive been offered a job in Qatar at 24,000 Riyals a month. I have to find accmodation myself and there is no other benefits.
What do you think of this and is it enough to live, ie play some sport, have a nice meal, maybe travel at the weekend and save some?
Any insights would be great.
Thanks

I will be happy if I get half of your salary, yours will be depends on how lavish you are. You can limit your expense, Just think so many families are here with QR. 5000-7000 and pay their major salaries to rent. JOB MARKET IS VERY BAD MY DEAR. I AM LOOKING FOR A JOB FROM LAST ONE YEAR. It depends on your acommodation. It is a decent salary but some of the housing is really expensive. The cost of living is comparable to the UK and petrol and most food is cheaper. Also think of utilities. Answered on Sun, 01/11/2009 - 8:19pm

As long as you don't have any financial commitments back in Ireland, 24,000QAR is fine. Don't expect to save much though, everything is very expensive here apart from petrol. More than half your salary will go towards your accomodation and car. As my in laws are from Ireland, I'm aware its quite pricey there too, but food/going out is about the same as Ireland. Best of luck! Answered on Sun, 01/11/2009 - 8:34pm

That should be enough to live off. it depends on how much you want to travel and how much you want to save. also how fussy you are with accommodation. My accommodation is provided by my company but it is around 8000 per month and it is really nice (well furnished, with gym, sauna, jacuzzi etc and in a central location). however it is small (one bedroom). Other than that transport could be a major expense (if you are staying a while you probably will buy a car... otherwise allow about 2000 a month for renting a sedan...more if you want something with a bit of grunt).I think there are some medical provisions allocated by the Government here so your day to day expenses should be covered (not exactly sure... maybe someone else can answer that one). Other than that you should be able to live very nicely on 8,000 a month including some drinking and socialising and buying imported foods from the supermarket. Answered on Sun, 01/11/2009 - 8:35pm

Sounds okay for an average lifestyle in Qatar. However; any savings is highly depended on your lifestyle. You will only start saving once you are setteled. Answered on Sun, 01/11/2009 - 8:57pm
