How grave is "stealing" in Doha's Law?

An expat was accused of buying a stolen item, now he is put on jail. How grave was his fault?

How long will he be in jail?

In my country, possession is 9/10 (nine tenths) of the law. Meaning if you buy stolen goods, the consequences will be as such, as that you stole the item yourself. This is an appropriate system as thieves will always say that they bought the item off someone. For those innocent parties involved, it is bad luck.
