To avoid confusion you should use the Arabic/Muslim way of greeting and say Salam a'laikum (peace be with you) when you meet someone or enter a place. The answer you will receive is Wa a'laikum Salam.
And when you leave you should say Ma'a'salama.
These greetings have no time limits i.e. morning/afternoon or evening.

0000HRS to 1159HRS should be Good Morning
1200HRS to 1759HRS shoould be Good Afternoon
1800HRS till 2359HRS should be Good Evening

I'll give you a simple explanation 12.00pm is NOON hence you greet someone good AFTERnoon. 12.00am is Morning hence you greet someone Good Beforenoon. Evening is what lies between noon and morning hence you greet someone good betweennoonandmorning (try saying that fast)

lol! ^_^ I got confused also with the way they greet good afternoon here! Anyway, one of my friend told me that after 12noon, it's food evening already. They don't know what's good afternoon is!

hi guys the reason the question was raised is coz..

In the US of A Good Afternoon is until 17:59

In Europe Asia and else where, Good Afternoon is until 16:00 (High Tea in England is generally after 16:00 if ya know wat is HIGH TEA).

Well Quite a few right answers there,not satisfied thou need sum reference websites..plz..

Good Afternoon is 12:01 PM to 6:00 PM.

Good Evening is 6:01 PM to midnight.

Good Night is 6:01 PM to 4:00 AM, but only when you are leaving.

Good Morning is 4:01 AM to noon.

"Good Morning" : 12:01AM -11:59AM

"Goofd Afternoon" : 12:00Noon - 5:59PM

Good Evening is from 6:00PM to 11:59PM

I think the above stated is right...

When you're phoning somebody in a different timezone, I regularly call people by saying good morning, and they reply good-afternoon (it would be 5PM here).

After sunset you will greet good evening. Good night only be said before going to sleep meaning wise basically.

look, this is just only a way of wishing a person you meet in european countries based on no theories. Good is for something good and morning, evening, or afternoon, all that the time when u meet him to add with it., but it is not necessary to be always good in all that occassion specified coz, if my father died in the after noon, it cannot be a good afternoon to me while every one comes and wish me good afternoon, makes absalutely immaterial., therefore salam is better than all that baseless salutation for human being to be atleast it is a prayer to God to be other person you meet in peace and blessings and you may rewarded by God for that too.
Since, you ask a question when? it became and that I must answer to you that u should look up the sun, if it is in the evening, i.e. before sunset, just prefix the good with it., and same rule applicable to morning, and night even if you encounter any unexpected mishap in your life in that day., mean everything is good, so you can understand its merit now how much wise and meaningful is the kind of blind salutiation is. lol.

Good morning starts from 00 00 01 Hrs.

Good after noon starts from 12 00 01 Hrs

Good evening starts from 16 00 01 Hrs

Good night starts from 20 00 01 Hrs
