Can Hypertension cause headaches?

I've been diagnosed with mild hypertension (no meds required). Also, been experiencing persistent headaches recently (and, I'm NOT prone to migraines). My GP reckons it's the BP. But I've read somewhere that this link is just a myth. Should I take her advice, or do I need to get a second opinion.
