Carrying LCD TV to Bombay - Airport Query
I travelled a lot between Dubai-Bombay, and couple of times between Doha-Bombay. But never on the Bombay airport, i faced customs or anything to declare. May be I never carried any noticeable items tough.
I am planning to carry LCD TV to Bombay, which wud cost around 2000 to 3000 QR.
1. Will I have to pay customs, what are the rules?
2. If so, Would be how much?
3. Whats practical things happens on Bombay airport, i should be aware of.
4. Any better option compared to carrying TV while travelling, like cargo etc.?
Experienced people kindly suggest. And if you can share live experience, it wud be gr8.
Thanks in advance.

If you carry the LCD along with you , there wont be any Duty charges , unless the police at the bombay airport would stop you , if they do pay them Qr 100 they will not take indian rs , that's all But if you want to cargo, it will cost you atleast Qr 800 as Insurance Duty & Cargo charges . I took LCD last yr and at Delhi airport they saw, asked a few question confirming if it's self used and allowed without any fuss. As per rule you can take used stuff, if leaving forever from outside. Answered on Tue, 03/11/2009 - 12:52pm

Technically anything above Rs 25,000 or 1 Laptop you have to pay custom duty. But lately a lot of electronics goods are exempt from those duties. But in all seriousness if you carry LCD TV the Customs guys may laugh....LCD TV is cheaper in India....as its manufactured there....while its costly here as its imported here.... Also the LCDs screens are very soft and brittle any hard knock while transporting could spoil them forever & you will never get replacement. If possible NEVER take LCD home. Customs is very strict these days specially with LCD tv's. As what i know they apply a flat duty of Rs.7000+ on LCDS starting from 32". A recent experience for a friend carrying 40" was levied a duty of 10,000 Rs. Door to Door will cost you charges of weight + the customs duty of Qr.1,000, so its better to take it yourself and pay the duty. in the end it depends on your luck, some times you can just pay a bribe of 2,000 and just leave.
