As soon as you have finished your RP ... the quickest way is get one on your Friends name who already has an RP and then transfer to your name once your RP is done

To be able to buy a sim card an expat should have a "pataka", or a visa ID.

You can get a pre-pay one as soon as you arrive. No need for RP.

Tallg is absolutely right, no need for RP. My husband came on a visitor visa and got a sim card from Qtel on the same day he arrived.
Also watch out for promotions. Sometimes Nokia has promotions that you buy a cell phone (cheap one) for, like, QR200 and get the sim card wich is an awesome deal!

u can get da sim on da same day as u arrive in doha.js show ur passport in any qtel branch.thts it
