Is tourist visa extendable?

Hi,
I have asked my mom to come to Doha on tourist visit visa under my sponsorship. I did not get her thru family visa right away because i have 1 document lacking (which is my birth cert.) Is the visa extendable for 6 months? If not, can i just get her a family visa then? Any remedy? i'm really worried because, i just get 10 days to work on this. I really appreciate your earliest response.
