just a quick question, QLers. is it true that an NOC from the company/sponsor is required if you want to get married here in Doha?

/-a-t-/LP - hehe..a friend just told me that she was informed that she needs to get an NOC from her company to get married..come on, employer has the right to 'ban' you if they don't like the man you are marrying?! LOL

I can confirm that when I asked my lovely bride to marry me she said I has to ask the owner of the company she worked for here in Qatar. Well I am american and this seemed to be crazy but I did and then they accepted. But when the wedding date came along... they denied her leave.. so after 10 yrs to this company she quit... collected her monies and we havent looked back... So theres the answer to your question... Sad isnt it.. and the locals wonder why the international community is looking at Qatar for unusual labor practices.

Good luck with your proposal and I hope she says yes.. and wish you both a happy and long propherus life together..

hi Jaime..err, it is not actually for me. i just heard it from a friend and found it really ridiculous to have such a rule! some of us don't even ask our parents for permission to get married, or an NOC as what they call it. any case, thanks for your reply ;)

As if the sponsor has the right to object on whom you want to marry...LoL but yes, an NOC is required before getting married.
