QL Volunteers Group
I’m really excited and happy that we will start a QL group for our volunteers! This is just great. After the QL Blood Donation Camp1, the QL visits for children with special needs, and a couple of charitable projects organized by our dear QL members, we’ll have our own , hopefully growing, group!! Yaaay

Even I love to be associated with any such activities which are helpful to the society/mankind along with recognization to QL Group identity. To be frank, I hardly get leisure time other days except on Fridays. So let me know if I can be helpful for any sorta contribution of services.

hi charmed...couldnt meet you earlier during the abbaya shopping as it was my birthday , so was totally held up on that day.
aisha: the trip to the old people's ward is pending.....we had to call it off the last time....so we have a couple of activities on our agenda.
1. visit to the old people home/ward.
2. picnic for the kids: we will have to keep it for the evening, 4pm sorts.
3. blood donation drive again for those who couldnt do it the last time.
4. holding a charity bazaar or collecting old clothes/items, food and arrange for its distribution at labour camps or to necessary embassy who can do the needful.
5. getting contacts from volunteer organisation who conduct fund collection for the sick,who cant pay for their treatment, sometimes the plea comes in the paper, we can do our share in raising this fund.
6. meet other charitable organisations
7. get a contact at qatar volunteers organisation who can help us with our activities.
how does this sound? any other ideas?
In India, esp my place, we have orphanages, where individuals give money for a mini feast to be organised for the kids, so its like we can have it every weekend or monthly or something like that. dont know how it works out here.food is expensive in india, and other than the basic food, kids in such places cant dream of eating delicacies prepared for them.so we usually donate a bulk and the orphanage decides how to go about it.
whats the convenient time for everybody.....for me it would be friday evening and saturday. like i said, i wont be able to come for all events but i will do my best to help organise it.

wow girls you rockkk ...WOW I’m loving your ideas, girls! And yes I agree with charmed, we should brainstorm first.. HOWEVER, I’m so sorry (I don’t want to sound sexist coz I’m so NOT) but the brainstorm meeting ( in a coffee shop or something) will be only for girls :-P We are already a females majority.. OR we can arrange a meeting without me It’s ooook ..you guys will keep me posted I know :-D
Anyway, It’s my midterm exams this week and the one after.. but I can manage to do it if you ALL agreed on one date. SoOoOoOoOo please just keep the brilliant ideas going and catch me up!
AND, I’m thinking we can arrange some sort of a brief intensive course (something like a practical lecture by a professional) for our volunteers (guys and girls) and anyone even outside QL. It’ll be about the volunteering principles and things of sort. If you don’t mind, we can start working on this and if you think about it and its results, it IS in itself a very charity work. We can arrange some sort of certificates for the attendees and we can make a price for the tickets. We will use THAT money for some charitable purpose that we will agree on :-) We will need many people to work on that project regarding the contacts, settings, publicity, public relations..etc SO we have to plan this all if you liked the idea.. if not then just ignore me lol

aisha ...you are supposed to speak to the lady at the hospital to try for a visit to the old people this saturday ie 28april2007.
what needs to be taken for the old people is basic necessities, like toiletries maybe some new clothes...so if we are meeting people in a ward, get the number of men and women.

to the men,
as girls we will meet and discuss but whatever we do will be communicated to the men...pls dont mind.....any inputs from the men will be taken head on, be assured about it.
we are in this together.

Sfd24, the group is not exactly one yet.. we are waiting for that new feature by qatari.. you know it’s like the emails groups discussions.. lol we kind of started earlier, way earlier :-D
iwael, no it's NOT only for girls.Only some outings are. But you guys can organize your own outings too.WE ALL belong to the same group and communicate online mostly. If you don't like it this way then we'll change it don't worry. Let's see what the majority says.
About the hospital visit:
See, I talked to the lady and it turned to be not as simple as we thought lol. Girls, we can go just by ourselves like we’re friends or family coz we don’t exactly represent any organization or anything of a kind.. not yet ;-) .. so we’ll be there without anyone introducing the sections to us. It’s okayyyy I know the place and people there and I’ve been there. BUT if we were “obviously” a group then we have to write to the one in charge about our visit and say are we men or women or both.. and are we gonna visit the men or the women or all..etc. It’ll take time of course... beside; they won’t have us in the weekend if so.
And I talked with them about the gifts and all, don’t worry :-D
Basically what I’m thinking about is that we the girls just go there by ourselves on Saturday (what time do you prefer) and AFTER THAT we organize a visit to all of us some time in the future after writing to them. What do you think?

smiling is good :-) ...Most people there are too old and sick that they HAVE to stay at the hospital.OR came from poor families ( or no family at all) that can’t afford a nurse.Others are really young with similar health problems.So, there will be no much talking.. just smiling, shaking hands and things alike.let me do the FEW talking :-) we’ll go to the women’s.
Also, I was thinking we visit the coma patients (accidents youth victims mostly). Every time I go there I feel closer to God I don’t know why!! I feel for them and all,but there are many lessons to learn as well.
Let’s pray for them and their families AND, for the God's sake Let's learn how to appreciate more what we’ve dared to take for granted!! Youth, health, Time, family, good looking, clear mind.. etc etc etc!! We SHOULD be happy with these all!!

i am with you on this.just make sure that it wont be an awkward scene for anyone over there, if we need to take a longer route we can do that too.
who is the late bird on saturdays, we may have to try to schedule around them. i can be up at 5am as everyday :-(
gypsygal is also an early riser, i think.

if morning, 10-11 seems fine, i am ok with even earlier than that 8-9am :-)the thing is, i will be up early and will be wondering how to pass my time, since the kids will be asleep.10am, they are wide awake.then leaving them at home is difficult.cant take the kids to rumailah.

what are we going to do there....actually nothing much.
the purpose of visiting such places is basically to give company to the resident patients.they have a resident ward or something similar where they have long term patients. these people are just left to the system, their family comes to meet them but how happy can a person be all alone in a hospital without family.
all we want to do, with aisha speaking arabic, is to convey that we care and try to do something for them to make them happy, get them something if they wish, if they ask for a porsche cayanne, i cant think of it, but if they ask for cologne or something similar, then why not?
when we went to the speech institue, we did not undrstand most of the kids, and we dont have teh capability to understand their requirement, but there was a joy filled in them when they saw the toys and so many people, even the care takers were so happy.
before aisha gets busy with her other plans, we must pay a visit to the school with some more stuff for them. this is the way we can help.by giving something, although material and try to spend some sort of quality time with them.

yeah any time is good with me ...but will need directions as to where the hosipatal is! im hopeless at finding places! let me know if i need to bring anything! i love the idea of sitting with the coma patients too! its going to me amazing to go there, like you guys said sometimes we all need a gentle reminder to show us how lucky we are in life!

Blood? I remember the last time I wanted to donate blood to my best friend Malou she had miscarriage, I have my husband with me when we went to see her at the hospital. When they are about to get some blood of me, they said, not possible! as I don't have enough blood for myself! I looked at my husband and he asked, Why you're looking at me like that?
He can't say no! as he has enough blood to donate.
So, for sure if I'm going to attend blood group donations? he will never come with me again, why? he's afraid of needles!

It's been a lovely day with you, Aisha, Charmed, Gypsy gal and Fauzia. although it's breaking my heart to see such a situation that way! the scene I've seen there is not what we want to happen to us later on! take it as a lesson that one day, we'll all be old too! but if we show enough love and caring to our family, I'm sure they will not abandon us that way! I knew for sure that God is great and is always there to look back on all the good things you do and still about to do! people who don't appreciate other people is their lost not yours!

Aisha! ...You make me cry today! I wasn't expecting this but I always wanted to do this, I was involve with this volunteer groups before during my youth as I told you!
I always tell my husband I will look after his Mum even though she's horrible and don't like me at all! even though she generalizing Filipino and told my husband not to marry me before!.
Until now, although I've been married with her son for 12 years! she still don't like at all, the sound of Filipino what a great reputation we have!!!
After all, Although nobody loves me when I was young, but I wasn't brought up to disrespect elders!!!
And that's the reason why my hubby don't give up on me, because he knows I have suffered enough! but here I am as happy as you can think of! No one can guess what I've been through but one thing for sure I have never done bad to people but wanted to do as much as I can to make them happy!!!

Take care of your health.... ...Aisha, han, charmed, kairajane…it was really nice to be with you all yesterday evening. I met Kairajane for the first time…..she is cool.
I was thinking all night, one thing I realized is whatever we have in life…. how successful we are ….the most important thing is when we get old we should be healthy enough. Never be a burden to ourselves or to anyone around us.
We met many ladies there… they are all in the Hospital for many years. They don’t have a choice…...so they end up being there. Some of them are abandoned by family…some cannot afford to get treated in their home country. Anyways those who could communicate with us were very cheerful and accepted the reality of their life.
But……one very old blind lady…..was there with her packed bag in her hand…… waiting to leave the hospital any moment... It really touched us… as soon as she heard us…..she asked us if we have a car to take her home……. But the sad fact is that she don’t have anyone to take her home…. or anywhere to go.
I really appreciate the Hospital management and staff for taking good care of them. Most of them cannot eat themselves…change themselves……or do anything of their own.. The nurses are doing their job wholeheartedly. It was good to hear from them that once in a while the hospital management take them out to Sheraton…. Marriot etc for breakfast or lunch. Isn’t that a great gesture from the people who really take initiative for such outing……They really deserve a break from their boring Hospital life

It was amazing to meet the people there and share their laughter! that lady which could sing all those songs and speak all those languages, and the sweet old lady who just wanted to go home but had no home to go to, and the sweet lady who wouldnt stop dancing! my favorite thou was the old guy in his wheelchair who was praying and had a happy smile for everyone who walked past him!
we should defintaly make this a regular thing and bring small things along to brighten up there day!

And he has this beautiful peaceful tone of voice while praying.. tells you a lot about his spirit.. I like the fact that he was praying in the corridor.. so all people around can enjoy the scene and the sound :-)

Yeaaaah gypsy gal.. this is really sad.. Not only because she has no one, but also because of the “hope” she kept.. Keeping a hope is really brave thing to do because it means that you accept the risk of losing it, while giving up hope is the easy way to live life as it is and simply go with the flow.. In THAT age, being THAT determined is just so powerful of her..
So you think that she really believed that there is a way OUT? I think deep inside she knows the truth.. The metaphor of the “blind cat” she made says it all.

You know girls; I’m really surprised that none of us actually cried right away! Lol if I saw anyone crying I’d burst into tears myself, but none encourage me to do that hehe you toughm tough girls :-) I like it that we kept smiling and talking to them in a cheerful way. Yay bless us :-D
