Living & working with Qatari

Hi everyone,
I am looking at setting up in Qatar, looking for a sponsor or
parnter in trading heavy lifting equipment. I hear there is alot of
growing demand over there for cranes & lifting gear.
Can anyone tell me about there business exprince with a Qatari partner,
can they just sponsor you & leave you alone, as long as you pay them there
rate? How do you ensure that they don't take over your business once
established. What is the quality of live compared to London ? Thanks for
your advice.

Hi Rupert, Despite there ...Hi Rupert,
Despite there being laws in place, many expatriate businessman have lost their businesses to there Qatari sponsors!
Rogue businessmen are never named in the press, the newspaper editors are afraid of the consequences, despite there supposedly being a free press here.
There are certain spheres of business were you do not need a sponsor. I suggest that you contact the Qatari Chamber of Commerce & Industry to find out more.

I would agree with the above ...I would agree with the above Rupert.
Quality of life is not quite london socially (i.e. there isn't anything much to do here and some people go a little stir crazy) but its not all bad.
A Qatari partner can just sponsor you and leave you alone and many do but getting a good one is important especially as they have to assist you with work visas and the like

Hello Rupert. As Qwerty said ...Hello Rupert.
As Qwerty said to you,go to the Chambers of Commerce and Industry in Doha Qatar and follow their guide lines for the setting up a company,my advice to you is to get your self a Solicitor / Lawyer who has an office in Doha Qatar employed as your company legal representive on a yearly retainer this way you will not get in to any misunderstandings caused by you not being able to read and write Arabic fluently.
This way you will not lose your Business and your representive will be able to complete all your legal matters with the Qatar Authorities,if you need a Qatari Partner then he will have to deal with your legal representive.
You will find my e-mail address in the blog advert that I have on this web site, please kindly feel free to contact me,I am in the UK trying to find a job in Qatar.
