15th Asian Games Doha 2006
Having been in Doha for over half of my life, I have to say, the upcoming Asian Games (now affectionately being referred to as Doha 2006) has to be the biggest thing to hit this country since oil.
I'm interested to find out how other people are feeling about The Games. Like me, many people must be fascinated by the preparations--from the overwhelming infrastructure developments to the news we see every day in the papers about new international sponsors and endorsements.
And wonder of wonders, there's actually some buzz about Doha being a potential sight for the Summer Games in the coming years. It's hard to fathom that this once quiet city is about to start making some major noise in the sporting world.

I am a student who's very ...I am a student who's very much interested in volunteering for the Asian Games...I have few questions, can someone help me in this:
Can we choose the activity that we want to volunteer in? do we get some training before? What about availablity, do we have to be on stand by 24/7???

I have a pending job offer ...I have a pending job offer to work the Asian Games. I should know more about the job in a week or two. I live in the United States (California)and was fortunate enough to work the Winter Olympics in 2002 (Salt Lake City, Utah).
My experince in Salt Lake was indescribable and I thought it would be a once in a lifetime experience. Now, I have an opportunity to go to Doha and work the Asian games and I couldn't be happier.
I am extremely excited about the possibility of moving to a foreign country, especially one as great as Qatar. I'm looking forward to meeting and working with a brand new group of people in Doha. My new wife and I believe that this will be an experience that we will never forget. I am thankful for the games as they have exposed me to an area, culture and people that I may never have been exposed to if it wasn't for the games.
I think the games will be incredibly beneficial to Qatar and its people and I couldn't be happier to have an opportunity to be a part of it.

Go to www.doha-2006.com, ...Go to www.doha-2006.com, there on the top right corner you'll see a section for volunteering. You can see what activities are available and you can apply online, but it might be better to go to the Asian Games volunteer center (which I think is on Salwa Road near Starbucks..) because then you can discuss with the people there and find which position is suitable for you.
