Hiya,

Any info on Al-Khor? It looks nice on the internet, but does anyone here actually live there?

Wondering what sort of activities are available for mums with at-home kids to do, especially without a car!!

thanx again!

Don't move there. Just don't. There is no reason. The commute from doha is not that bad and you will have a far better time here. One of my friends had to live in Al khor for 2 months and the boredom almost killed him

thanx for the reply Super7

Just wondering, how far is it from doha to al-khor in peak hour traffic (ie. hubby to commute daily).

What about to Ras Laffan?

See discussion under 'Preparations and Set up". http://www.qatarlivi.... Despite the above remark, there are a lot of happy families there. For a carless mother of young kids, Al Khor would be far better than almost any compound in Doha.
The worst bit of a commute would be getting out of Doha: not too bad if you're in the North of the city. Once you're clear, it's only about 40 minutes.
But see also threads on accomodation. Situation's murder in Doha at present. Suggest you stay Al Khor to begin with then if you don't like it, move to Doha after the Asian games have finished in january.

thanx mr niceguy,

I appreciate the advice. I think we will stick with al khor in the beginning until we see the situation.

I lived in Alkhor and in Ras Laffan - and later commuted to Doha.
Hi ummsumaya,

Alkhor community has one of the best compounds anywhere. It has two schools (Indian and British), a hospital/dentist and Hamad hospital, super markets and three clubs. It has also restaurants (french, asian and italian) and kinds of sports and leisure facilities. Recently, they installed Wi-Fi as well in the main club. The population is more 6000 and it's lively. So, it's a nice place but the rest of Alkhor is like a small doha - and frankly boring.

Ras Laffan is about 20 mins drive away from the compound and Doha is about 25-45 mins (depending on your speed and where in doha you want to go).

I hope this helps and welcome to Qatar.
