looking for a one bedroom appartment

ramon24's picture

Hi,

I'm coming to Qatar!!! well, that's not what i actually wanted to say, hehe...I'm looking for a one bedroom appartment, i'm coming all the way from  Montreal, Canada, and was wondering what the average rent for a one bedroom would go for. i've read a couple posts, and after seeing that the average two bedroom goes for 5,000-7,000 qr, I'm assuming that a one bedroom should be around 4,000 qr, right?

anyways, while im at it, whats the usual cost of living for one person in qatar? is it more expensive than the now overpopulated but still beautiful dubai?

thanks

Ramy

To be honest i have not seen many one bedroom apartments! Your best bet is to look in the gulf times a english paper over here but you will find that the one bedrooms are maids quarters and you don't wanna be there! Oh hang on i did get offered one but it was fully funished and they wanted 8000qr a month! You might find one but be warned you will be better off with a two bedroom!

I have seen only one one bedroom apartment in a really seedy area of town with a pack of wild dogs outside, it cost 9,000 QR a month. After rent howeverm the cost of living is fairly cheap. You shouldn't spend more than 1000QR a month on food. It depends if you go out to the bars a lot or not.

Where will you be working? Don't they supply an apartment?

well, let me be frank with you here.

theyre offering me 11,000 a month, net, with 4,000 included as basic.
I haven't been offered accomodation, however they said this "In any case we are going to rent either a renovated villa or large apartment to give newly arriving staff a reasonably priced option. The cost per head would be in the range of QR4,000 per month for one bedroom with shared kitchen/lounge room"

is this good?

Actually I take that back, shared is never good except when you are in university. But it is affordable at your salary. Unfortunatly apartments here are really really expensive. :(

It seems I get paid pretty well, i mean, back home Id get paid 35,000 can, the industry average, and suffer a taxe of 20%.

I told them I wanted a basic of 8,000 qr to make my whole package 15,000 a month total. they refused me, saying that theyre giving me the industry average. Im just studying my options. im a young university business graduate, and I'm looking to get my feet wet in the sports pr field.

if you were me, cuz ure similar to me, according to ure profile, wud u take this offer?

thanks again for your replis btw uve been a great help

I think the deal you got is not so bad, it could be a good start here in Doha, then later on you can shift to any other job if you want.
In the beginning you don't have to take a long term appartment contract, just get a short term lease then you can make a better search while you're in town.
It's always better to search while you are in town...and i think a lot of people here in this community are very helpful, don't worry you'll find good help when you come here.
Good luck

Yes I am similar...Canadian, in PR... Unfortunately I graduated ages ago and bummed around Asia for awhile. And I'm Irish from Cape Breton...and a chick. Otherwise, I gave you my answer under the other post. Salary good, but need to negotiate on the apartment. You can live off 7000QR a month easily, but thats a lot of cash going for a probably crappy apartment.

Risking the wrath of Sandie asking this, but does the company know you are Egyptian? Unfortunately that may be playing a part in the crappy apartment offer. :(
