Salary ranges in Qatar

Dear everybody
I would like to open this forum to discuss one important issue that is to be salray ranges in Qatar. Evaluting any employment offer can be much easier if we have done a research of slary range for a ceratin position which may help us to know wether or not it is a fair offer. Therfore, I would like to ask about the availability of sources that tells us about different amount of salries for diffrent positions. Personally, I woud like to know the salary of an architect or urban planner and also for a head of planning unit in Qatar.
Thanking you in dvance.

The offer is for US$50,000/year all inclusive.
I am single with 2 years of experience and a master degree in civil engineering ( north American degree). I am from Palestinian.
Will I be able to survive?
How much will I be end up saving, in average, per month? ( one month approximate salary is US$4150?
Is the salary good for my qualifications?
Please advice.

obatt ...Around 30 to 40% of your salary will go towards accommodation. You will also have to pay for your transportation and incidentals.
It's a good offer for a single person.
Good luck.
Moudir said
Obatt ...There are a lot of usefull articles on this thread you might want to consult.
But i'll repeat what i always say when this topic comes up.
You will get the equivalent of your home base salary, may be a bit less. But you pay no taxes here.
Most people will get allowances to pay their housing costs which vary anywhere between 5000QR to 8000QR depending on the type of accommodation you get, plus people get transportation allowance of around 1000QR/m, which means roughly 50QR/day, plus the usual health coverage, (1)or (2) air tickets per year, 30 working day holiday, etc., some get end of contract bonuses.
Your "all inclusive" note is not clear to me what it exactly means. Does it mean your employer takes charge of all your expenses?
Now, as an Engineer myself, allow me to give you some personal advice;
It is always better to come to these places when you have 10, 15 or 20 years of western experience. You have to realize that you are not going to learn a lot on the job here. Either in the private or the public sector, peers of different ethnic blends might not give you the proper training a young Engineer deserves. In the end, 10 years of experience in Doha will not be equal to 10 years of experience in the West.
But the decision is entirely yours; carefully analyze your work environment, your scope of work, the type of firm, the length of contract, total package, etc. before making a decision. Wish you all the best!

Business architect ...May i know how much salary a Business Architect get? I got an offer from QTel QR 16K basic + QR 5K for accom & Transport + QR 250 for Telepohone exp. (total 21250 will be credited in my account every month).
And they told me that if i wanted they will give me single room flat with full utilities paid and arrange a vehicle to tavel to office instead of paying QR 5K in my hand. My question is, which is worthwhile, taking flat or getting 5K? And single room flat is costly near QTel head office in doha? Since I'm single, i'm open for paying guest accomodation also (In dubai, paying guest accomodation is bit cheap Dh. 1.5K will get a nice room).
This job is one year contract and if they lik my performance will take me on board.
Do you think its a good offer?

Salary 12000 QR/mon ...Hello there. I have 5 years multinational co's experience
3 of them in oil/gas field and I have bachelor & MBA
from good accredited university. I'm Egyptian and
have good salary plus allowances there equivalent to
7500 QR. I have QG offer for 12000 QR plus free accomodation/allowance depending on availability
plus free medical and annual ticket back home. Any1 knows
about QG grade levels or what they mean? (they're 1-16).
So is it good offer? I already save equivalent of 4500 QR
in Egypt. I am not looking for depriving myself in Qatar for sake of money. I am single and assumed will spend 3000 QR there (is this enough?) thus saving 9000 QR/mon (double Egypt saving or little less). I tried negotiating but no luck as my recruiter isnt good so I am very hesitant. Any advices on whether its worth it or not? Thank you.
P.S. My current salary is high mid class but it appears Qatar offer is lower mid class as posted in other comments!

Civil Engineer in Doha ...Hi there!
I’m a structural engineering student planning to work in the region of Middle East. And recently, my girlfriend, who is also a ‘fresh’ graduated civil engineer (Dipl. Ing. in hydraulic and environmental engineering – which is equivalent to M.Sc.), got a job offer which both of us consider as a good proposal for a beginner. That offer includes basic salary of QR9000, transport allowance QR1500, single bed furnished accommodation, 1 annual air ticket, probation period of 3 months and 22 working days annual leave.
I’d appreciate if someone, who is familiar with above mentioned field of work, could give us some advice. We’re interested in living and other expenses, and would this be enough for both of us, because it would be the only income in the beginning. Please consider that my girlfriend has got only 4 months of experience in practice.
Thanks to all in advance!

I am a pretty big guy - 6'5" and would really like to apply with a fair chance of getting in. Also, is it relatively easy for men to get accepted or are they mostly looking for female employees.

Salaries in Qatar ...Hello All:
I have enjoyed reading the comments of several people on this website. Well, my situation might be a little bit different. I have posted my CV into an Arabic website, and I got a call from one of the largest and wealthiest family owned firms in Qatar. They asked me if I would be interested in a senior level financial analysis position, and then without interviewing me, they asked for couple of professional references that have already pleased their ears. I have been living in the United States for over 23 years with a BA and MBA from the States, I have never heard of an employment process like this before? is this the common practice in Qatar? I am financial manager for the government, I make good income and have two homes, one is rented and one I live in with my wife and three kids. What would you think that their offer will look like, if any? Thanks

Try to do more discussion forum studies (if you believe them) and tighten the nuts of the company offering you "5750". The figures will increase faster than you blink. If it doesn't and you are still keen on joining - best wishes.Housing is a major expense and you have it covered.

In general, there is no ...In general, there is no fixed norm for anything in the middle east. Most of the time it is your luck which works. Housing is the major cost in Doha as of now, which is covered in your case. CAs must be getting better salary in Doha or for that matter in any part of the world. However, you have to make a choice based on available options and your future plans. If you are young, you can always get some middle east exposure and move to other countries as well. If the money is major criteria, Saudi Arabia is the best place to work in.

Switching companies in Qatar difficult ...The following is a summary:
Granting sponsorship transfer/ release is at the discretion of the employer and subject to approval of immigration authorities. Hence employer reserves his right to grant or not to grant.
A two-year ban to come back to Qatar under another companies sponsorsip applies under current regulations unless there is a no-objection certificate.
Most companies won't release their employees to work at another company within Qatar because of the expenses incurred to hire that employee. Therefore, with all the opportunities available in the Middle East presently, carefully consider your options before committing to a contract. It would be very disappointing to sign a contract, arrive in Qatar, and then realise that there are better companies offering better packages.

What is a fair salary for administrator? ...I have recently moved to Dohoa with my husband. Although he is on a good contract I cannot see myself as a lady of leisure and need to find work. Anyway I know that I will not be as well paid as I was in the UK or even Australia but if I stay in admin, what is a realistic salary range? I have applied for a department administrator position for an American oil company.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Kerry - good question. Unfortunately... ..... from my experience, you won't get the kind of answer you're looking for given the (no offence) generic sounding nature of the job. My wife is a theatre nurse and she can't find any benchmarks either. The reality is that there really is no yardstick to these kinds of jobs as they will be tailormade to suit the unique requirements and conditions of the employer. Put differently, no two admin or nursing jobs in different employers will be the same, so comparison is difficult, if not impossible. That said, if you have put in an application for a specific role, why not ask them the question. Believe me, this will neither be unusual, nor will they have a problem giving you at least a ballpark figure.
Good luck!

Raymondo ...This what I Know.
1. Ask for company provided accomodation to suit with your requirement. do not accept housing allowance. rent is incresing day by day. If you accept housing allowace iincrese in rental will be your baby. If company rpovide accomodation for you it will be your baby.
2. Ask for a company maintained car. Almost every company prodide cars to their employees or travelling allowance which is equal to your car loan.
3. No tax here.
4. Return air tickets with one month paid leave after 12 months.
5. Fixed working hours. Employers expect you work overtime without compensation.
6. Salary - can not advise as I am not in your trade.
sl said
Raymondo ...Another point I missed was the Grativity. Employees are entiled to 28 days pay for every year they completed in the company. So if you work for company A for 2 years they must pay 56 days pay when you leave the company. But most of the companies never to that. make sure that it is in your contact agreement.
Another point is you can not change company without the consent of your sponcer. If they dont agree and you insist on leaving the company, they simply cancel your visa and send you back to your contry. If they do that you can not come and work in Qatar for another 2 years.

QP : Grade 17, 4-yr contract, Doha ...Dear all,
My hubby will be attending an interview with QP soon... i wish to know the salary range & allowances that he can negotiate for.
He is a civil engineer of Asian nationality. QP offered him Job Grade 17, 4-year contract, based in Doha. What is the salary range & allowances for a family of 2 kids (2-year old & 3-year old, i will be home-maker)?
We've read that rental and living cost are fast rising. For a 4-year contract, will QP revise salary / allowances on say yearly basis. If not, how do we factor in the inflation rate for 4 years? We're afraid that the salary + allowance package is insufficient to cope with the inflation rate, say in the 3rd ~ 4th year.
For family medical coverage, is it all inclusive without limit, ie. medical check up, hospitalisation and vaccination for all dependents?
We're puzzled....... Wish that someone will be able to advise us.....tks so much.

architect ...i have a problem with an offer by a company in qatar:
heres the offer:
basic salary - QRs 3500
house rent - QRs 700
conveyance - QRs 300
that makes it 4500QRs or roughly US$1200
im an architect here in manila and i just find that offer very RIDICULOUS because i can
earn that same amount as private practitioner here.
i have 4 yrs of experience as architect in the philippines, i have no formal gulf experience
but ive worked doing villas and palaces for my uncle who is in dubai.
can you give a salary range for me?

qwertyguy, ...don't want to comment on the rest of your query, but for Qrs.4,500/- you cannot rent a one room flat. The rents are going thru' the roof. Come January, after the Asian games, many more areas in Qatar will be demolished, so the demand for housing is going to increase.
All the best.

maybe you could also give me info about Ras Laffan, about women (over 25 y/o, single)working inside industrial construction area! Do you have any idea whether they are allowed to work inside industrial construction area, say administrative works therefore not in the field but in site offices s only?
Thanks for your help!

Are they serious? ...Hey everyone,
Myself and two of my colleagues got offers from QatarGas today. They offered the Senior Technicians 6,932 QAR per month plus housing at Al-Khor and the Rover Technician 6,585 QAR per month plus housing at Al-Khor. Is that really what Qatargas pays for these positions? That offer does not even represent 50% of what we get here (granted we have to pay 20% tax).
Should we even bother to begin negotiations? (I have 13 years experience by the way)
We would appreciate any advice you could give.
Thanks in advance.

I need some input ...hi there folks,
i am being considered for a managing director post in a french joint venture company in qatar and I am quite disappointed with the offer given to me. 20k qar with no housing per month. Their argument is that other managers in their org are not earning as much. I have been here for 3and half years and the reason why they are considering me is for my experience in the qatari market. So I need your input, how much should I be asking? I think 33K per month is a reasonable amount for me to live my desired lifestyle, which is ard 8kUSD per month.
I need your inputs.

DODC 1974 ...There are no restriction in Qatar based on the Gender. It is up to the company hire who they want. However Resident Permits are not being issued for certain nationalities.
DODC1974 said
Thanks sl!!! ...Thanks a lot for that info sl. I am talking about a Filipina and i guess when you were issued with work visa, you could also proceed with processing your Residents Permit , am i right?
sl said
DODC 1974 ...Check with your company what type of visa they are applying for you. There are project visas(reneval every 6 months),work visa and resident permit is the same.on prior approval and issued approx. 1 month after your arrival subject to medical fitness. by the way which part of PHP u r from? I have been to your country several times.

Triniaviator ...It's always worthwhile to negotiate. When those positions remain unfilled as they make low offers to potential empoyees, they will have to renegotiate with a revised offer. QP is having the same problem spending hundreds of thousands of riyals on recruitment trips, and coming up empty handed because the offers are too low.
I wouldn't come to Qatar for anything less than 50% more than what I can make in my home country. Definitely not equal or less than what I can make in my home country.

sl ...Thanks again for the advise!
I am from the southern part, it’s about 1 1/2 drive away from the main city.
I really have great concern transferring to Qatar, Ras Laffan to be exact. I have to know whether women (over 25 y/o) can work in the offices of construction inside industrial area.
Second thing is that since Al-Khor is the next big town (or city) next to Ras Laffan, I guess it is an ideal place to stay if you are working in Ras Laffan! Compounds or Villages would be better since there could be more freedom of movement inside. Are there any compounds or villages in Al-Khor?
Is Al Khor also a place for certain European to stay?
Thanks once again!
