Curious, can some one give me an idea how much it will cost to retrieve our shipment(15 boxes) out of customs once it comes off the boat? Can a persons employer help with this process?

Bigdaddy,
I believe that you can appoint an agent to clear it for you. We cleared our own some years since, it came by road and were very lucky to get it out within hours.
I imagine that your employer will have some sort of facility for assisting with this. It would after all be in his interest as you could be away from work for a long time if you do it yourself.

QR 30,000 just to get port clearance? THat's a bit exhorbitant isn't it? Or is that the total cost door (country of origin) to door (Doha)?

Tata, What I meant is that the customs estimates the goods of a 20 ft container vessel to be worth QR 30,000. The tax on this is 5%. However all household goods are exempt from tax - this is granted by some authority (Directorate of whatever).
