So what about living expenses?
I "heard" and I guess people are right when they say that life is not cheap in Qatar. I'm already aware of the rental costs but what about:
1) Food, how big would the weekly grocery store bill be ? Let's say for me and my wife? (No kids)
2) Bills : water, electric, phone, house insurance, internet access, cable TV...
3) Gas (what do they use? unleaded right? Do they use Diesel engines?)

Phone, depends, but you have to pay a subscription charge of about two or three hundred, and then monthly usage charges. Not sure what's the tariffs, but a ten minutes call to France, off peak, costs around 20 QR.
Internet...ahhgg, sorry can't remember, think I pay around QR600 every three months??? ADSL. (don't take my word for that...)
Cable: QR 2500 approx. Yearly. Showtime Total plus package.
House Insurance???? What for?
3) Gas. Cheap Cheap Cheap. No diesel, as far as I'm aware...

Gas. cheap cheap cheap? Yipppeee! Sick of Europe's skyrocketing gas prices. So havng abig car wouldn't be fuel consumption but rather its price...
BTW is it really recomended to own a SUV or 4x4? I don't really like those monster cars but I guess roads must be the roads that require such cars. What about smaller sizes? BMW 3 series, Toyota Camry, Audi A3...?

With the roads in the state ...With the roads in the state they are, sometimes a 4WD helps!! But for the most part they are for desert driving or pure status. There are certainly lots of the other sorts you mentioned as well....

Diesel is available out ...Diesel is available out here, but there are no cars that run on it - it's for the lorries only.
It's mainly Jap cars out here, although all the Euro manufacturers have a presence. I'll be going from a Volvo estate at home to a smaller Nissan or something on the basis that the smaller your car the less there is for someone else to hit.

The list is based on averages, from 5 different supermarkets each a with their own products. The products are examples, not the actual price of 'that' product; as some stores don't have exactly what you need. It really depends on the kind of food you buy. Certain Asian products are very inexpensive, but imported American or European foods can be costly. An example is Italian Salame (pork) or even Kellogs. You can get the Kellogs made in Saudi, or the Kellogs made in the US. Price will vary obviously.
Like I said, it's indicative, not fullproof, but it should help a bit.

Well that depends on how much u guys really eat hehe!! Ok instead of all these questions why not just make a list of how much things actually cost here like for egs Gas, bread, vegetables, fish, meat etc...as for me my weekly shopping comes to around 150 to max 300 a week which feeds 3 adults
Mineral water will cost you 6.50 or so for a pack of 6 1.5 liter bottles, gas is cheap like 10bucks for a cylinder. Cars now a days man, just walk into the bank and walk out with a car loan its thats easy. lets not forget petrol is cheaper then water here! Fresh chicken may be 8 or 9 bucks..not sure mostly buy the frozen one which is 9 bucks. Then there's always the fast food joints.
I think its quiet possible to get a 2 bedroom for that much rent.

not many one beds built over ...not many one beds built over here to be honest you will end up with a two bed look in the gulf-times.com its the english paper over here and you will find two beds for about 4000-5000 for uf. I looked for a one bed first off never found one!!!

I have to live singly but as officer, not a labor class, my comapny will give me accomodation but what will be the living expenses as a middle class person.
What are the normal salaries there in Qatar.
what is the normal expenses of a single man.
and if i want to live other than the comany accomodation, what will the approximte cost of a normal residence in a new building, flat, single bedroom accomodation but furnished?
