Hi Lou

For pocket money it will depened on how much do you want to spend and your life style.

About clothings it is better if you don't show alot of yourself but no worries.

Best shopping in City Center, Landmark, Lulu, The Mall, Royal Plaza and Hayat Plaza.

Hi Lou,

off hand I would recommend $700/- ($100 per day) and exchange it at the exchange houses like Fardan, Gulf Exchange, etc as they provide a better rate than the Banks or hotels.

For your greater expenses, most places like the centers mentioned above by Ayman accept major credit cards like Visa, Master, Diners, etc.

Enjoy your stay in Qatar.

Bars and western-style restaurants are as expensive as in London: 5$ for a beer in the hotels. Indian-style eating places are cheap. Taxis are cheap but you'll need a lot of them. Car hire's cheaper than Europe so probably about the same as USA. Commercially organised trips to the desert maybe USD100 a head.
Warning: It's getting hot! Take a hat if you intend to wander around in the sun.

Whatever you do whilst you are in Qatar, try not to smoke on the corniche. The following is a letter from the Gulf Times. Personally, I think the guy is confused about what constitutes smoking in public places.

Don’t smoke – at least in public places (Prize-winner)

Dear Sir,

In spite of the ban on smoking in public places by the government of Qatar, we see people smoking on the Corniche. The Corniche is used by many people, including children, for evening walk. I believe smokers are aware that passive smoking poses health risk, so could you please avoid smoking in such places?
