World Blood Donor Day
Global celebration of the World Blood Donor Day (WBDD) will take place on 14 June 2008. This annual event highlights the role blood donors play in saving the lives and improving the health of millions and creates awareness about the availability, safety and appropriate use of blood and blood products. The resolution passed by the World Health Assembly in 2005 recognised that voluntary, non-remunerated blood donors who donate blood regularly are integral to safe, adequate and sustainable blood supply.
The clinical demand for blood is rising throughout the world to support advancements in medical and surgical procedures. Though the pattern of blood usage varies in different countries, there is still a great need for it in the treatment of complications during pregnancy and childbirth and severe childhood anaemia.
Voluntary blood donors donate blood of their own free will for altruistic reasons and get no reward except personal satisfaction. Patients who receive this blood feel a sense of being cared for by others whom they will never meet. As national blood programmes move towards the goal of total voluntary donation, there is an increasing appreciation of these donors and their pivotal role in ensuring adequacy of safe blood. It is important that their contribution be recognized and valued by the community.

In City Center HMC blood bank booth will be near Carrefour
and Villaggio they will be on the main Entrance or you may ask the information desk about HMC blood bank location.

Blood - to help defeat the Dracula Blood ...The mythical Dracula sucks his victims dry. Modern Draculas bleed each donor up to 450 cc (or about 1 glass) of his blood at any one time.
"When a person donates blood, his bone marrow is stimulated to produce new red blood cells. This will make our blood forming organs function more effectively. And the new young cells generated will remain more effective and active cells. This is equivalent to change oil in a car. In the same way that a car works well after change oil, donating blood will make a person feel better. A healthy person can donate blood every three months with no ill effects."

Weigh a minimum of 110 lbs
Bring ID
List of all medications you are taking and the reasons why you take them
Eat within 4 hours before donating

(*)Aspirin/Aspirin-containing products including Ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil, Nuprin and Aleve, and Herbal Products containing garlic, ginseng, ginko or ginger, including teas
72 Hours:Antibiotics

speed ...One more condition, I guess they don’t accept if you have traveled to certain countries within the past six months, that includes India as well, hence I am not eligible. We got very good response for the first QL blood donation campaign.

I cant donate my Blood ...My blood is holy and consecrated with Anthrax vaccine shots, typhoid shots, rubella shots, in total about 21 vaccinations. According to the Government my blood is not good for donation for the next 10 years..
And let's dedicate ourselves to what the Greeks wrote so many years ago: to tame the savageness of man and make gentle the life of this world. Let us dedicate ourselves to that, and say a prayer for our country and for our people.

SPEED - I am sure ...Blood can be donated at any time and also every three months, Hamad needs blood supplies so if there is a group perhaps you can organise this every three months. Talk with the personnel they can tell you what to do.

well guess i cant donate ...well guess i cant donate blood in here ever.. they sau u shud be in qatar for a min period of 6 months.. and the prob is a travel out at least once in 3 months.. :(
