How does having $900 qualify you for the empowered list? ...Are our aspirations so low?
Let's think about things from a different perspective - empowered women should meet and discuss empowerment issues as they have a responsibility as decision makers and leaders to strive for a more empowered environment for more women. They have the power to fight and they should understand the responsibility to do so.
I would also suggest that there are empowered women who are not wealthy and wealthy women who are not empowered. I know women who fit both these categories.
Ever meet an unwealthy journalist who was really making a difference in her world for example - she is a catalyst for change. Empowerment is about many things including having a voice, having an input to our world, standing up for ourselves. Sure having money may make empowerment potentially more accessable for some people.
But what do you call a wealthy woman who can't choose her education, or profession or husband or is denied to follow her dreams by her family? What do we call a wealthy woman who does not have the right to vote or lives in a controlling, demeaning or even violent environment. What do we call a wealthy woman who accepts her conditions because her husband is the source of her wealth and she is so demoralised that she doesn't have the confidence to see she can support hersef and feels trapped.
The topic is so much bigger than money.

Well not empowered enough, ...Well not empowered enough, journalists get in free if that's any help. As to the cost, what can I say, we didn't get anywhere near enough sponsorship from corporations, and as it stands we will be relying on the ticket sales. The topic is far bigger then money, but you need money to bring up the topics in a forum where they can be discussed, with women who have the ability and the drive to discuss them and do something about them.
The Ultimate goal is two fold, one is to come up with a call to action that will be presented to HH Sheikha Mozah (she's requested it) that we can act on, as well as start workshops, programs and seminars that will be accessible to all.
two is that by this time next year, when we hold the second conference, we will have adequate sponsorship (once people see the great things that come out of this) and we will be able to lower the price.
Unfortunately not all revolutions are free....or even cheap.
