Wheels and Heels 2008
With the aim of involving the entire community in an activity-packed, healthy, fun-filled day, whilst at the same time reminding them of the importance of sports and nutrition for a healthy life, the annual Wheels 'n' Heels event is a winning fixture with young and old. This dynamic event attracts thousands of participants - both on foot or on wheels; including mothers with pushchairs and people in wheelchairs!
This year marks a return to the Corniche (near the Sheraton) and will be held in conjunction with the final stage of the Tour of Qatar. Though the main activity is, as always, the Circuit, this year's event comprises different zones where participants can involved in a variety of activities.
* At The Stage, you can check out non-stop entertainment including local musicians, autograph signings, and the creation of a giant mural by VCUQ students.
* Learn about your health in The Village.
* Take part in a Yoga or Pilates class on the Fitness Lawn.
* The Circuit is a 3km course is where it all the "Wheels 'n' Heels" action happens. Schools, companies, celebrities, athletes and individuals young and old will take to the Corniche to run, walk, skate, ride or wheel around a pre-defined circuit in order to raise money and awareness for ROTA's projects.
* You can download a sponsorship form to raise money for ROTA's programs. Whether you raise 5 or 5000 Riyals, every little bit counts and contributes towards ROTA's goal of providing Education For All today.
Rain or shine, Wheels 'n' Heels 2008, promises to have something for everyone and truly be the day when Qatar comes out to play.

Last year this event was held in Sports city ...Main concept is to Reach out to Asia
it was well organised (games,entertainment by children, cultural show plus
some craft work on exhibit)

It is about ...It is a programme called "Reach out to Asia and it is a fun day for people on foot or on bicycles and as far as I understand is organised by Qatar foundation. There is a programme about this posted on another thread, however if you the search machine you will be able to finnd all the information you need.

CONOCOPHILLIPS Qatar will be the exclusive Gold Sponsor of Reach Out To Asia’s (Rota) third Wheels ‘n’ Heels community fun day, which will take place on February 1.
The sponsorship agreement was signed by Omnia Nour, Rota director and Mike Stice, ConocoPhillips Qatar president at a ceremony attended by a number of representatives of both the organisations.
The fun day will be attended by HE Sheikha Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani and HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad al-Thani.
As part of its commitment to the local community, Rota has held the Wheels ‘n’ Heels event for the last two years. Wheels ‘n’ Heels 2006 and 2007 have attracted over 10,000 supporters and volunteers, including international celebrities, cyclists, skaters, skateboarders, walkers and those with special needs.
Nour said, “I would like to thank ConocoPhillips for their continuous support of this community fun day, which ranks among the most eagerly-awaited annual events in Qatar. This year is full of pleasant surprises, with high-energy stunt and myriad entertainment options for all ages, Wheels ‘n’ Heels 2008 promises to register record participation by the people of Qatar.”
Stice said, “We are excited about our partnership with Rota for Wheels ‘n’ Heels 2008. ConocoPhillips has been associated with the event over the past two years and we are happy to take this relationship further. The fun day is a great opportunity for us to join members of the community in supporting Rota’s cause to promote education across the continent. We hope that our support will help thousands of children throughout Asia for whom quality education is still beyond reach.”
In addition to the sponsorship deal, the employees of international oil major ConocoPhillips and their families will also participate in the Wheels ‘n’ Heels 2008 charity walk.
Wheels ‘n’ Heels 2008 is being organised in association with Qatar Cycling Federation. The grand finale of the prestigious Tour of Qatar will trigger the start of Wheels ‘n’ Heels’ main event, which consists of a three kilometer stretch that people are invited to walk, wheel, rollerblade, skate or ride.
The rest of the day will feature live entertainment, fun games, interactive sports and performances by renowned singers and dancers. A Lifestyle Village will be set up, aimed at offering a fairground-style area of attractions for the entire family; with side shows, demonstrations, corporate stands and bazaar-style stalls.
The annual fun-filled event aims to involve Doha’s multinational communities, reminding and informing them about the importance of a healthy lifestyle achieved through sports and proper nutrition.

I for one had our whole sports club join in the fun... last year...
The Tour of Qatar cyclists too will be joining in after they end their dual on the1st of Feb....
See you guys there... perhaps a QL 'Team' could do the 3km stretch.. wud be real good to see all the QL'ers out there... judging my this Fridays' weather... i think next Fridayz gonna be swell...

Reach Out To Asia is a charity part oQatar Foundation initiative ...the Wheels n Heels Charity run takes place every year usually late Jan early Feb....
ROTA as they are commonly know organise various programs across Qatar and Asia (Pakistan,Lebanon,Indonesia....)
They are all for educating the underprivileged....
It would be wonderful for everybody to support this cause and show up at Wheels and Heels

We were the ones who did the ...We were the ones who did the setup the last two times, this year im just participating as a volunteer.
It's basically a carnival, where people can come and have fun and at the same time donate. There's entertainment for kids and grown ups too.
Red Bull bike stunts (3 displays)
Harley Davidson show
Showtime sports entertainment (shooting hoops and scoring goals)
On stage entertainment, where Ehab Tawfee2 will perform at 4 pm
Kids play zone
The big screen, on which all the events will be broadcasted
and The Bazar, where u can buy food or snacks from
This year they are combining 2 events togather, the Qatar Bicycle committe is also participating, so the award winning ceremony will take place at wheels and heels too and there will be around 150 international and famous bicyclists, they will complete the tour of qatar on bikes at around 2:30

Vegas you park by hugeparking lot between Qtel tower Sheraton ...The whole Corniche will be closed.... so you take the arched round-about to get to the parking lot...via City Centre r/about

i went and if you have kids ...i went and if you have kids they will love it...free balloons, hats, t-shirts. Lots of jumping castles and slides.
Was a bit cold but kids will enjoy it..

especially ConoccoPhillips red stars and the Wonderworkers from THE ONE were amazing.....like always....

Fantastic but chilly - photos ...dd(darling daughter) and I went there 12-3:30 and it was great...jumping castle, T-shirts and caps, peformers and interesting kinds of food. I bundled dd up in three sweaters (enough for the coldest Canadian winter). I thought the cute dancing performers from the Phillpino schools were excellent (see atatched). Sorry I missed other QLers there...couldn't identify who was who. Next time, I'll wear my "I AM BAEDAEBOK" T-shirt. dd insisted on riding in her stroller so we strolled up the Corniche. She particuarly loved the "Power Shoes" team...thos 5 guys with really long, metal shoes (high-tech stilts). She wanted to follow them all over the place
