Monthly Book Auction
Finished your holiday books already? Want to chat about the latest releases with other Doha readers? Feel like honing your bidding ability while supporting a charitable cause? Then come along!
What: First Ever Monthly (or thereabouts) Book Club/Auction
When: Friday, February 1st, 14.30 until...
Where: The One cafe (2F of The One shop), Villaggio
Please bring:
-Friends/enemies/family/lovers
-The book you are currently reading, for the book 'club' bit
-Any books you'd like to donate to the book auction
-That stack of one-riyal banknotes you've got in your flat
How it works:
The person who donated the book can regale us with a brief description of what it's all about. Then interested parties start bidding, in small increments (dirhams/1 riyals). The money gets thrown in a cup. After the auction, all the money in the cup gets dumped in a charity box (we can decide this at the time).
You can return books to the auction to circulate again, or keep them for forever and forever.
What books can I bring:
Anything that might be of interest to someone else!
Stephen King, blouse rippers, classics, sci-fi, westerns, contemporary literature, Middle Eastern history, Canadian history, classic Russian fairy tales, haiku, dictionaries, Shakespeare, travel guides, maps, biographies, Harry Potter, Emily Dickenson, children's picture books....
and so on and so forth.

At this point... I can't ...At this point... I can't change. This is about the only day I can do this, and I've been scrambling to find a time to begin with.
You have no idea how short-staffed we are going to be at work in February. I honestly have no idea how much free time I am going to have.
You all can do it next weekend if you'd prefer, but chances are I will have to work. It's just plain bad luck.

The auction contents what ...The auction contents what people bring to put in, yo. So nope, sorry, I don't know what will be in the auction. The factious answer, of course, is 'books'. Which you already knew.
And, um, yeah. It's freezing outside today. No way in Purgatory you'll catch me out there. I'll be inside, chatting about books and trying to sound as intelligent as possible (^^).
So, let's see--
I've got Suze, Oryx, DaRuDe, Nama, Femme... and whoever else wanders up.
So tell you what. Let's try this, and see if it takes off, and today we can talk about how we'd like to structure future get-togethers. Keep an auction, do a book swap instead, read/discuss the same book/author/genre and so on and so forth. We'll also decide which charity box to throw the money in, and decide on our next gathering. Etc etc etc.
