Rally drivers take on each other in karting challenge ahead of Qatar's Cross Country Rally

International rally athletes went head to head on Monday for the first time in a friendly go karting challenge prior to competing in Qatar's Cross Country Rally Super Special Stage.

Qatar's Cross Country Rally organized by QMMF and hosted at Losail International Circuit Karting Track.

20 participants took part in the challenge. Gustavo Ibeas won first place with a best lap time of 48.335 seconds. Red Bull KTM rider Mathias Walkner came in second place with a best lap time of 48.395 seconds with Pierre-Alexandre Renet coming in third place with a best lap time of 48.632 seconds.

"It's really cool to see Qatar pushing sports in all areas; in Rally, MotoGP, Karting and of course football. It's really great to be here and I can't wait to start the race" said Sam Sunderland, Red Bull KTM rider and Dakar 2017 Champion, who set the fastest lap on the karting track in the semifinals of the challenge.
