Twitter suspends Al Jazeera’s Arabic account, restores it after online outcry
On Saturday, Twitteratis got a huge shock when they saw that Al Jazeera’s popular Arabic Twitter handle @ajarabic had been blocked.
People were greeted by a vague board which read ‘account suspended, Twitter suspends accounts that violate Twitter rules.’ No further explanations were available.
Al Jazeera’s Director General Yasser Abu Hilala had first announced about the suspension of the Al Jazeera Arabic Twitter handle.
This sent people into a tizzy and they reacted angrily online. It did not help when another Al Jazeera channel tweeted this.
However, Gulf Times reported that a source at Al Jazeera said that a technical issue was to blame. A few hours later, the @ajarabic account resumed.

The account was again active with almost all its followers and tweets available. Twitter has not yet given a reason for suspension of the site, reported The Peninsula.
Al Jazeera, on June 8, had said that it was combating a large-scale cyber attack but that all its entities remained in operation.
AJArabic is the most popular twitter account in Qatar with 11.1 million followers.
