Eastern Curry Powder storehouse raid, "Sudan Dye" adulteration found
Kerala government's health department conduct a raid in Eastern Curry powder's store house and destroying chilli powder adulterated with Sudan Dye, a cancer causing adulterant, which was to be shipped to US/UK Middle East markets. The video was prevented from being aired on TV channels in Kerala. Please share in the interest of public health.
Cochin : Raids were conducted on the premises of Eastern Condiments Private Limited, export wing at Neeliyabathy , where officials seized 1200 kilograms of contaminated chilli powder ,key adulterant being Sudan Dye. Tainted Eastern Chillie powder were to be exported to the United States, were Eastern Condiments had consolidated its position in the US markets.
District food inspectors confirmed that the raid had taken place and huge quantity of adulterated spice powders confiscated, which would have been exported to International markets . The officials told OLR “we have given the sample to the lab ,for further test analysis and to find out any other spurious ingredients are there or not” Raids were conducted by a team of officials, lead by Spice board food inspector Ajith Kumar, Abdul Jaleel and Biju. P. Jose. It is reported that team of official had received information, from international regulatory sources on adulterated chillie powders exported by Eastern Condiments. Raids were conducted based on these reports. Officials further stated that for every 100 gms of Eastern Chillie powder, 14 milligrams of sudan dye was present. The team later buried the seized, contaminated Eastern chillie powder.
