DOHA: A multi-million dollar epic movie in English on Prophet Muhammed (Peace Be Upon Him) is in the making on the initiative of a Qatar-based media entertainment company, Alnoor Holdings.

Internationally renowned producer-director Barrie Osborne, with such films as The Lord of the Rings and The Matrix to his credit, has signed up as producer.

The project was announced yesterday at an event here attended by Osborne, along with renowned Doha-based Islamic scholar Dr Yousuf Al Qaradawi and Ahmed Al Hashemi, chairman of Alnoor Holdings.

“I am inspired by this opportunity to bring such epic entertainment to the world and excited by the chance to inspire and enlighten by bringing the story of one of history’s greatest figures to audiences around the world,” said Osborne.

Qaradawi will lead the research and serve as technical consultant on the film.

An initial budget of $150m has been set aside for the film, which is financed by private investors and the Alnoor Fund, set up by Alnoor Holdings.

The Alnoor Fund is established with an initial capitalisation of $200m to produce international films in English appealing to both Muslim and non-Muslim audiences.

The film, which is currently in the development stage, will draw upon the best international talent. Alnoor Holdings are in discussions with studios, talent agencies and distributors in the US and UK and it is anticipated that production will commence in 2011.

Al Hashemi stressed the importance of making a film on the Prophet for the global audience. “There are more than 1.5 billion Muslims worldwide and Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world. The story of the Prophet has great contemporary relevance for Muslims and non-Muslims alike and Alnoor is delighted to announce it as our first project.”

Alnoor Holdings (“Alnoor” or “Group”) was formally launched on Saturday with the aim of taking advantage of the growing economic importance of audio-visual entertainment and becoming the most dominant international media and entertainment player.

Opinion about proud to be a >>>>>>>>>>>> NO

I thought it was harem to depict the Prophet?

Nic Nic

Will there be protests or applauds?

I dont know what to say, already seen protests of Mullas from all over the world on previous projects.

iam sure, one another reason is also to boost fame of Qatar.

agree, anything goes here, for a bit of fame!

They can shoot the film as long as they do not show the face directly.... its been done before.

you are talking about the movie 'the prophet' which were condemned much after its release....

i think it was good to ask first opinion of common muslim how they see this, then to start film...

Quite correct Exiled.

Moustapha Akkad epic movie the Message (starring Anthony Quinn as Hamza) did not directly show faces of the Prophets and the 4 Caliphs.

Only the Prophets' staf, his Camel and Ali's sword is shown.

As far as I know, the movie is a big hit in Muslim countries.

This lead to a follow up question: what differentiation strategy will the Prophet take as opposed to Akkad's the Message.

I dont understand, how they'll shot the film, they want to make the film on Prophet Muhammad P.B.U.H. life, so should not show the face and voice directly of Muhammad P.B.U.H. and Muhammad P.B.U.H. Wifes and 4 Khalifa's,

in my openion, its better to shot the Holly Place, Ziarat's and make the documentary film accordingly.

They have to make only a documentry film as film on PROPHET ( P.B.U.H ) is not good, even if they not showing their face but they will use the voice and no human in this earth compare to our PROPHET (P.B.U.H), so film on PROPHET ( P.B.U.H) is not good idea.

Sorry I have to disagree with your last comment anteeca. Wasn't the point that Mohd was the same as every other human and not celebrated and worshipped as the messenger the point of his teaching? Saying no human can ever compare to him sounds like idol worship to me.

I hope it comes as good or better than Ten Commandments...

Prophet Mohammed ( P.B.U.H ) is a human but he is a messanger of ALLAH so how a normal human is compare to Prophet ( P.B.U.H)? This is difference rite......

Exile please write out Mohammad's full name.

Yes Prophet Muhammad(PBUH) is a human being...but the best in every aspect of humanity as it is stated in Quraan by Allah(God) and that is the reason no one can ever compare him...we call that respect and that doesn't mean we worship him.

as far as the film on Muhammad(PBUH) is concerned, in short, I would say "its not a good idea".

I congrats Islamic Scholar, Dr Yousaf Al Qaradawi and the chairman Ahmed Al Hashemi and all the members, for making a film on Prophet Muhammed's (peace be upon him) life.

Anteeca, we appreciate your work that you make this session so people can come and comment regarding this issue, i dont know we can stop them to shot the film or no, but i would like to invite all the muslims from any country, so they can give their idia's or comments, and if you can make the voting system its much better.

Nic Nic

if you are successful in getting all muslims from every country to comment on this issue, my I suggest you also asked them to voice their protest against violence in the name of God!

Good job. I really advise all to watch it when it's finalized. Just don't judge now. give yourself a chance to know, then judge.

and please don't start fighting converting this thread to many other issues, as usual.

Definitly show the personlity of prophet Muhammed (SAW)will maligned the image of prophet. Hardly he can do that as the director of movie "The Messenger" did. who did not show the character of prophet but showed other "sahabas".

As i saw "The messenger" it was obvious to say to the particular characters that he is "Hamza" or "Bilal" or "Abu Talib" which was quite undesirable.

for e.g If a person will play the role of god. It is quite undesirable to say He is god while watiching movie.

Those who will be most severely punished by Allaah on the Day of Resurrection will be the image-makers."

guys just think out of the box for once, and all will be alright. god won't punish you for that!

a good idea for me because i'd be able to learn more about his life in a bit easier than reading a book about him. Film reaches more audience and souls. Film captures more attention than books. Visual is more interesting. As long as the film is not bias and real, i believe film is an effective channel.

"To err is human, to forgive is divine."

Oh yes, things that should be addressed during scripting are the many monotonous ramblings of the Islam haters

1-Peadophilia:- that the blessed Prophet is often accused of

2-Wars and Jihad:- The reasons and rules of engagement

3-Tollerance:- and the limits therein

Anyone feel free to add to the contravertial list of aspects that should be covered.

Ecosavvy - I doubt they will depict the Prophet, perhaps a similar approach to what was taken in the filming of 'Alressalah' the first movie of the prophet or even perhaps the way the persian movie "Maryam" was made whereby they showed light on the faces.

However I think that the makers of 'lord of the rings' will creatively shrowd faces with a turban or shoot from an angle either behind or to a side.

There are many ways around it

For all those who mentioned that their doing it to promote Qatar, well at least they're promoting it for a just cause this time!

I was chuffed when they announced that they were splashing $25 mil on RUMI the sufi poets story.

I also read someone mention that the Prophet Mohammed's seera pbuh,is a far better story to tell.

Maybe someone actually reads these dreary posts?!

If so, then I believe that not only Gharadawi should be consulted, there should be a committe of experts to make sure that the movie wont be yet another 'studied' moderate muslim ploy.

Having said that, for the first time i'm actually happy this is finally being done, so well done , but do tread with caution to make sure its done in the right way.

what's that story about?

as Abu lahab and some one from royal plays role of Hind

If its a big success will there be a sequel?

I mean Abu Lahab

The full name of the prophet is :

Mohd Bin Abdulla Bin Abdul-Mottaleb Bin Hashem Bin Abd-Manaf Bin Qusaii Bin Kelab Bin Murra Bin Kaab Bin Lo-aay Bin Ghaleb Bin Fa-hr

The last name (Fa-hr) is the name of man who's nickname was Quraish. He is the first chain of Quraish Group.

I hope the movie can impose the right image about the prophet's life and his character as well as his companions.

Nic Nic

the right image or the one you perceive as the right one?

Assalamu Alaikkum...Dear Bro's n Sis'

The Persons who make this movie should be well known persons such as Dr Yousuf Al Qaradawi and Ahmed Al Hashemi, chairman of Alnoor Holdings.

Please wait for the output and comment dear friends.....

May Allah bless to get the right image about the Prophet's life.......No one can full fill his stories by a human lifetime............
