Yoga, Meditation & Exercise
Whenever we encounter a stressful event, our bodies undergo a series of hormonal and biochemical changes that put as in ‘alarm mode.’ Our heart rate increases, adrenaline rushes through our blood stream, and our digestive and immune systems temporarily shut down. If the stressors continue and we stay on high alert for a prolonged period of time, we experience exhaustion and burn out. None of us can avoid stress, but we can return to a state of balance and regulation through a variety of means, including deep breathing, meditation, yoga, and exercise.. These activities provide calming and relaxing sensory input for stress relief and can be selected according to lifestyle and preference. When you meditate you bring together all of the mind’s energies and focus them on a word, a sound, a symbol, a comforting image, or your own breathing. The optimal setting for meditation is a quiet, clean place. People typically meditate sitting on the floor or in a chair with their eyes closed.A variation of traditional meditation involves guided imagery or visualization. If you use this method, you’ll imagine a scene in which you feel at peace, able to let go of all concerns and tensions. In guided imagery, audio instructions help you visualize the scene, focus your thoughts and relax. You don’t have to be seated or still to meditate. In walking meditation, mindfulness involves being focused on the physicality of each step — the sensation of your feet touching the ground, the rhythm of your breath while moving, feeling the wind against your face....all r welcome to the world of meditation & yoga.....

Yoga tips
By gypsy gal on Wed, 12/03/2008 - 10:02am- The most appropriate time for practicing Yoga is in the morning. It is the time when the mind is calm, composed and fresh and the body movements can be performed with considerable ease and vigor.
- To get started you need to have the urge and confidence in yourself.

personal training and nutrition
By peggyg on Mon, 19/11/2007 - 5:21pmI heard of this place back home where you pay a monthly fee and they offer one-on-one strengh/cardio personal training together with customized nutritional counseling. They seem to be doing quite well (been in business for 20 years). I haven't seen anything like that here in Qatar. Do you think a place like this would do well here? I know I'd like to see it! I have had weight problems in the past but no where here can I find this combination in one place. Let me know what you think!

Mind, Body & Soul
By jassimabdulazeez on Thu, 15/11/2007 - 11:17amBeing healthy and fit is more than doing exercise and eating plenty of fruit and vegetables - it's a complete way of life . Your mind, body and soul all have to work together in healthy harmony.
What use is a 6 minute mile or a six pack if you're about to kill the boss, or you sit at home depressed with a chocolate bar for company. So having it all is a dream?
With a few simple steps, we can all be healthier and happier and laugh a little more.
Life is all about living - being happy with yourself and others around you. Its to easy to become negative with your thoughts when your around the wrong people, or within the wrong environment.
Remember to make a change in your life - you will often need to make changes in your life.
What you do will decide who you are!

Fitness Exercises
By jassimabdulazeez on Thu, 15/11/2007 - 10:02amFor best results, combine aerobic exercises such as walking / running with body toning exercises to develop both good muscle tone and also a healthy heart and lungs.
Always build time for a warm up and stretch into your workouts, giving your body time to recover and rebuild after your sessions to avoid excessive muscle soreness and enable the benefits of exercise to be fully utilized.
One reason that so many people unfortunately give up with their exercise routine is due to sore muscles and no results. The fact that your muscles are sore, will tell you that they have been worked beyond their normal daily routine.
Your muscles are generally sore due to the body rebuilding them, to make them stronger to cope with the new exertions your placing upon them via exercise.

yoga is great to help with stress
By grassrootsyoga on Sat, 04/08/2007 - 6:04amHi all, I am a new yoga teacher in town and can most certainly advocate the effects yoga has on the body for reducing stress. Yoga is a gentle restorative exercise that at times can be challenging (depending on which style you choose) but ultimately in any style works on the parasympathetic nervous system which allows your body to relax and work through the pressures of a busy life.
I am looking at offering private classes if anyone has space in their homes that they would like to try Moksha Yoga? You can visit my website www.grassrootsyoga.c... for more information. Regards, Shannon

Suggestion for staying motivated
By marycatherine on Mon, 16/07/2007 - 12:32pmfor those coming back after their summer holiday - that this group set up a regular weekly (or even daily if that's what folks want) "check in" to let others know about your progress, new ideas, etc.
That way there'll be some accountability even if it is virtual and an added incentive to get and keep active?
