Conventional wisdom in Qatar normally holds that Toyota is by far the most popular car. According to the used cars listed on Qatar Living Honda was the most listed car with Toyota and Nissan trailing slightly behind.

New Car Sales will speak well of Popularity ...Here, Toyota and Honda are indeed popular, but it could mean that Cadillac is the best car since people never sell their car immediately.
These are Pre-owned cars, right? Meaning, many people sell Toyota's and Honda's to find for a better one.
Well, that's how i interpret the data.
I think the title can also be
"Most Popularly Changed Cars in Doha."
i remember seeing thousands of Tiida's in the streets last year, then all of a sudden i can only count them with my fingers. This year Camry became popular because i could see it everywhere i look in the street. Ey-yo! I saw another one just now in my office window.
For me, Popularity can be best judged by taking into account the New Car Sales. In 2007, Toyota was No. 1 and GM was No.2.
I think these two are the most popular. Considering that we have thousands of Land Cruisers, GMCs, and HUMMERs in Doha!

Anyway, in terms of sales and resale value, I know for a fact that Toyota is tops in Qatar, followed by Nissan and then Honda.

Honda after sales service ...is the BEST among the rest. lessthan 30mins for a regular service. I dont even have to leave the service station. ill just bring in my Honda's.... read some magazine and khalas, 30 mins up and my Honda is ready to go. You cant have this kind of service with Toyota.

most popular does not mean ...most popular does not mean that its the best! Japanese cars have a good resale values and cheaper maintainance but they cannot beat the comfort and driving pleasure of american brands.

lies, damn lies and statistics ...I think one thing is clear - Honda is definitely amongst the top three which is something that no one really knew (Toyota and Nissan are traditionally thought the front runners).
Now it could mean more people are selling their Hondas or that Hondas don't sell that well. But let's agree that :
1. Hondas are known to make pretty reliable engines
2. expatriates don't just keep buying and selling cars every year. They buy the car and hang on to it until they leave Qatar.
Of course, as Disraeli said there are lies, damn lies and statistics. Read what you will into the numbers - they are wide open to interpretation.

No engine can beat Honda's innovative approach.... they are the first to launch V-TEC Toyota copied and came up with same style VVT engine after almost 5 years...
Toyota has just one good car in their range and that is Land Cruiser... rest you cant compare with Honda...

Toyota vs. Honda ...The comparison is great. I'm sure am convinced that Honda is a good car (even before). But how much is the price?

I have driven both Honda ...I have driven both Honda civic and Toyota corolla. From my personal experience, I rate corolla better than civic. Smooth and reliable.
But I accept that Toyota customer service is not good here in Qatar.

I think people expect a lot when buying a Honda and then the cars come up short.. I think they are too overpriced !! Like the new accord which goes above 100 g's... I would prefer a Dodge or a Ford anyday. I think in Japanese Nissan are the best from what i have driven so far !!

What do we care? Indian subcontinental expatriates flair for honda.. Something I dont understand. No flexibility when it comes to spares and dealers. Very expensive parts. Some of the entry level models are ridiculously cheapish in quality.
More expatriates trying to offload their honda via ql because they hoping for the best. Every fibre of them hoping that they can sell it for some thing REASONABLE. End of the day if it is not for "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" bit, honda simply doesnt attract good resale prize tags.

People buy these cars because most of the expatriates are either middle-income earner or they simply want an economical car with good reputation. Give them money and they will go for the BMW's, Benz, lexus, etc.
That explains for me why the streets of doha is flooded with the top 4.
For me, I don't mind if I drive a kia or hyundai(not chery at this time plz...). I'm not conscious with my image in the public.

hey casanova ...never said poor performance. only pointing ugly finger at its backend support i.e number of dealers, parts pricing and alternative parts. nothing else the mid and high end hondas are good real world cars. I will never own a jazz or a honda city ever. They are sickly flimsy quality. Better choices in the market at that price. Honda civic is ok. accord has lost footing this year (tech wise) design seems next door neighbourly (hinding at camry)

Coz .. I believe Honda has more service stations and showrooms in the country than Toyota…
Spare parts are expensive but not too big difference in comparison with Toyota…
A new 2008 Accord generates 190 HP in the same capacity engine 2.4 ltr, where as Camery generates only 158 HP which is a huge difference…
A new Honda Accord comes with the top speed of 260 on the Speedo Meter, Camery comes with 240…
As far as shape is concerned the new and the old both accords are extreme line aerodynamic and I can’t help in this if you think the shape of new camery is better than new accord coz its your own choice…
Well … if comparing below the line cars like Jazz and City…. Please compare with Echo and Yaris (tin boxes), I’m sure you will start loving City and Jazz…
I’m totally agreed that Avalon is a very good car but again it has no competition with Legend…
Now compare CRV with Rav4 and you will run out of wits.
I conclude with this saying… that Toyota is a good company but it can not be Honda…
Please make it sure that neither I’m advertising Honda nor have any personal grudges with Toyota…
Give me a solid reason to say Toyota is better than Honda (apart from cheap spare parts), I would love to say Toyota is better than Honda…

all gizmos in there. They really love tech. then again. I find the new accord has gone so much to get itself a body job and nothing more. about the speeds. Well what use you have of max speed. Check out the stats. Camry is more popular in autralia and usa than accord. Echo is history (gone goose, crap as it was). city is flimsy cheap. yaris is better. Its probably the second year you are seeing yaris here. I have seen it outside qatar from as far as 2000. Did you ever own a toyota. To have an idea of how many service centers are there in qatar. Call toyota. They will start with

I have been to the landmark service centre, industrial area, mall and muntaza. I bet there are at least 4 more.
Look. The bottom line is. Honda is cool in its own way (without jazz and city). The domasco marketing of honda sucks big time.
spares are expensive (the differences are noticable, specially in qatar).
I have a few friends (honda loyalists) they gripe about the spare parts pricing (along with higher cost of regular maintainance).
Crv maybe better (I dont know . Maybe spec wise) but not as good looking as Rav4.
I admit the Older Rav4s, their specs sucks. The new ones are a big competition. OH and then again. Crv is not 4wd. Rav4 comes with 4wd option.
Toyota spoils you with flexibility. Base models are as simple as you can get with options to beef up the specs.
Honda on the other hand comes with take or leave it in the upper car category.
Another place where it looses footing is where it doesnt really have a luxury car category.
The upper end (accord and all) are stuck somewhere between higher end and performance sedan.
End of the day. I hate their business model. Honda Sells reasonably. THEY Price parts unreasonably to recover the margin. Just like the printer business. Printers come cheap. Catridges mop up the lost margin.
****Like I said, I love honda for all the R&D they are spending on. They also enjoy better tech scalability because of being present across few industries (marine, small jets, robotics and industrials)*****

Please go and check again with Honda… CRV comes with AWD and a 4WD option, then again it comes to shape and comfort, No one in the world will disagree with this that CRV is way-way-way comfortable than Rav4 (I bet u ask the Corp President of Toyota motors, Mr. Katsuaki Watanabe) I have experienced both the cars...
Domosco is providing you a life time warranty, I’m about to complete my 25000 Kms with my Accord, Its been 10 months I bought the car, I didn’t spend a single penny yet (Not even on regular services) its free up to 30,000 kms.

I dont know how good u are in absorbing the quality of material but looking at spare parts like bumpers in camery, any one with good sense of injection molding will say it should be cheap and same applies on the rest of the body as well, they sell it cheap coz they produce it cheap...

Here is how I interpret the ...Here is how I interpret the results:
1. People are selling more Hondas on Qatarlving because they have bought more Hondas in the first place! Having more Hondas being sold here does NOT mean people are trying to get rid of it. It actually means that most people bought the Honda and when the time to go/change comes, they are floating more Hondas in the market.
2. It's a fact that new car sales is topped by Toyotas. So why is there this mismatch between general Qatar trend and Qatarliving trend? This is because Qatarliving is mostly used by expatriates while cars in Qatar are bought by both Qataris and non-Qataris. So which car Qataris buy with closed eyes (even with as sucking a shape as new LandCruiser)? Toyota........
Hence, the conclusion is: Although Toyota is a more popular car in Qatar as a whole, Honda beats it when it comes to the car choice by non-Qataris.
And not amazingly, the new Accord and Civic are WAY better than Camry and Corolla, forget about other cheap brands here (like Nissan :D)

yeah i will put my vote for ...yeah i will put my vote for honda civic, i got this car in 2007 and until the moment i am very much staisfied with it not only by performance wise but also the shape... design... looks... are much much better than other brand on the road... here one must keep in mind that i comparing cars matching to civic like toyota, nissan etc not the others like mercedez or bmw..
