Procedure for export of car to Europe

Having been involved in the motor industry in Dubai before coming to Qatar, I would offer the following comments which can be taken as GCC general, not specific to Qatar.

1)Import tax, govt or personal
2)EU emissions rating
3)Specifcations & safety

Those are the three biggest areas to be wary of. Many cars in GCC countries fall short in some areas in comparison with European specc'd cars, be it in number of airbags, side-protection, lower EU ratings etc.

Most European spec cars now are either EUV or EUIV, anything less & you could be in a position of having to contact a dealer to discuss what changes would need to be made to the car you want to export, everything from lambda sensors, catalysts, ecu's & more!

Car makers don't care too much as to who buys there cars new, but prices here are so much cheaper it's the dealers who are so anti cheap (grey) imports coming into their markets, especially at a time when with fuel costs being so high are depressing their markets.

Governments will just take money off you...
