QL Volunteers Group : SPEED
The QL Volunteers Group was one of the first groups setup on Qatar Living. Aisha, one of our most prolific members setup the group and arranged for Qlers to give back to those less fortunate in Qatar by volunteering their time and energy:
I’m really excited and happy that we will start a QL group for our volunteers! This is just great. After the QL Blood Donation Camp1, the QL visits for children with special needs, and a couple of charitable projects organized by our dear QL members, we’ll have our own , hopefully growing, group!! Yaaay
SPEED has shown the same enthusiasm, caring and spirit in organising last weeks activities. Many people have nominated SPEED as group owner and I'm glad to announce that he has agreed to take on this task and help QLers give back!

Thank you Qatari... ...It is indeed a great pleasure for me to be a part of QL Volunteer Group. We will do our level best to serve the 'needy people' with our voluntarily services.
Also I would like to Thanks to all my Qlers for nominating me for the QLVG and I will be counting on your support in near future. We have to work as a Team.

I have few plans to visit some places where people are in desparate need of help, Once I am done, then I will annouce the projects on QLVG.

Speed...for blood donation... ...Few days back i spoke to Hamad's Mobile Blood Bank..
its very simple..all they need a group (20-25 ppl) and the mobile unit will come to a designated place...as suggestd by the donors
the unit is well equipped and can accomodate 3 persons at the time..

KE .. ...Well donations would be anything, but we are done with the last week HBK donation campaign.
Our next mission will be a blood donation campaign.. I will announce shortly.
That is why i am asking all Qlers who are interested in voulnteer services should register with QLVG so that email notifications can be sent to them on time and they don't miss any QLVG events.
There are chances of missing "Threads" on QL main forum, but notifications send thru email will be a proper way of communication with the memebers of the Volunteer Group.

Finally with Speed ...Thank you Speed for taking over the main role here, atleast thats what I understand. Aisha gave it a good jump start but for various reasons, we were not able to go ahead.
Just for additional information ;
at Hamad blood bank we had created a Qatar Living Group under Aisha, where we were told that whenever we donate blood, we can refer tot hat group and donate as QL members. Dont know if they have scrapped the group from their list, since its been quite some time, almost a year since the last blood donation.
We had a interaction session with the special needs kids at the Speech and Hearing School behind Elite medical Centre at Hilal. the idea was to promote the school for funds, since the school is run by the land lady herself and the children can neither go to a special needs school or mainstream school, they are stuck in between. It was sad, but the work done by the teachers there is commendable. it requires loads of patience.here again a group activity with the children opeining their gifts was the highlight of the event, sicne the kids were so excited and their parents were amazed that people still care.
We also met with the Long time residents of Rumailah hospital. these are people who are limited to the premises of the hospital and may never leave the hospital. If its 2-3 people visiting the hospital with gifts, you dont need to arrange for persmissions, but if we want to go as a QL group, then they will arrange the entire meeting for us, where we meet each patients, spend time with them, take gifts for them etc. A few moments spent with these people makes them so happy, they want to talk and tell their life stories, talk about their children. although many spoke in arabic, our mere attention makes them so happy.
Then there is Qatar Volunteers Association or Group on the Abu Hamour Road after Hilal. They too carry out voluntary events. Contacting them will also help us identify various places where we can serve as a society.

Last time (1999) I went to donate blood for my mother just 1 pint and I fainted. Im scared of needles
Now charity begins at home.....how do I suggest blood donation when I am myself not
donating?

just an idea here that :
why do we have to wait for an event like the fire or some other natural catastrophe, to happen, to donate stuff. Like we plan our social meetings we should plan a time, maybe once in a month or two months to collect money, clothes (new/old), used appliances and give it away to labour camps or to the Qatar Charity.
Most of us work, how many of us actually take time out to remove some extra money and give it to the office boys or tea boys who serve us everyday. thats one form of charity too.
The speech and hearing school that I had mentioned earlier, is run by the landlady and most of the children cant even pay their own fees, so the fees for these kids are usually paid by the other teachers. i remember one child specifically who is a bangladeshi, who doesnt understand anything, cant talk or coomunicate in any form, even the parents were clueless of how to handle her and she had to come to this school because this is where they could help her, but the teachers dont speak her language. but the child masha'allah had a smile that would light up anyone's bad day. we have our limitations interacting with these kids since we dont know how to, and its such a feeling of helplessness.
when are you planning on the blood donation? they are open on saturdays too. they can also arrange for a mobile unit, if we have enough number of people and they will bring the unit to the place of assembly, but i guess the hospital is good enough place to meet and donate.
