why dont you just publish ...why dont you just publish your address to drop off. that would be good idea. am sure we all have lots or paper ready for recycling.
Everybody is right everybody is wrong it depends where you stand.

Good idea ...What are your plans? The gulf Times often publishes ads for reclycling and I have wanted to send them a mail asking if they could start /give info about the paper recycling, as this is their business. But unfortunately I never did.
I think a paper collection would be a good idea. We do it in the west....and we all have lots of newspapers everyday. Would you know who would buy it? What is it worth and where would the money be spent?

ok ...Sorry I did not get what you meant about everybody is right and everybody is wrong depends on where you stand...
Guys this is just my initiative. No money or whatever. You can drop the papers for recycling or I can collect it from your area. I just want to help some of you who just stock/store papers in your garage.
You can drop the papers if you would like to my house near Hot Bread in Najma. Just give me a call when and what time you will go.
I dont know who would buy used papers. Nor its worth.
My number is 5208151 just give me a call whenever.

hey this idea is good. i will join ...YOU DONT KNOW ME, DONT EVEN TRY !!!

I dont understand ...Why would you want to collect newspapers from us if you do not know what you are going to do with them? Are you a horder or do you want to make building bricks with them? I am just curious. I thought you wanted to collect them for some kind of charity.

Not sure paper recycling is ...Not sure paper recycling is worth it here in Qatar. Paper recycling is very iffy in the first place, the energy needed to run the recylcing plants and remove the heavy metal containing ink from the paper-and that doesn't even take into account the energy used to collect and transport the waste paper. Freshly made paper at least uses some energy drawn from the combustion of the waste wood at the pulp mill. I just don't see that Qatar has the infrastructre to make paper recyling a plus for the environment.

there is paper recycling in ...there is paper recycling in doha mind you!
i have just started an Environmental Awareness Campaign in our office and first project is Recycling Program. I was in contact with Al-Swaidi Paper and Carton Recycling Factory and they will pick up our paper trash as we wish :)
nice accomplishment for me ;)

Well done, that is quite an ...Well done, that is quite an accomplishment-we've been trying for a year in my office with no success. It never hurts to devlop the recycling habits- it is just that the jury is still out on paper recycling in many countries, and I'm not at all convinced that it is efficient here. Though, if it reduces the volume of waste in the landfills maybe that in itself will be enough of a benefit.
Hey Kitty, would you mind if I put you in touch with a co-worker who is trying to create a recycling programme in the dorms? Lots of waste there and should be easy to collect with such a compact population, but trying to get it up and runnng is proving to be a problem. I think that she might benefit from your experience.

would love to but i will be ...would love to but i will be handing over my duties to somebody else now...
my QSE boss definitely will be sad hahaha. but at least im setting it all up for him. and made a group to handle it all. il just send u contact details of paper and plastic recycling factories :P
just tell your office to start not using plastic cups etc. thats a start.

Thank You ...Thank you Kitty, anything would be helpful. No, they are going all out, grey-water recycling, solar panels, heat-exchangers, everything. It is not the major technology that is the problem, it is the basics of getting someone to collect the paper and cans, are they really recycled or just put in a landfill, etc.
Ignore my earlier PM then, I've duplicated posts.

I think that all these ...I think that all these initiative to recycle paper are good! but the best option to save the environement is not paper, paper is a renewable energy and in fact is not as big a deal as fosil fuels. In my opinion it is better the switch off the light in your patio or in the porch try and save electricity. If construction companies were serious about the environement, they would build houses with red bricks and make the walls properly insulated and not the way most house are build in the gulf. But i gues some of you will say it's better than nothing..best way is to avoid recycling and try to use less paper as possible. But also stop accepting plastic bags and start resuing the same ones. Keep a few in your car and where you go shopping use them. Turn off your electrical appliances from the plug. Standby mode is just as energy consuming. Use natural light whenver possible and swithc off AC whenever you leave the house.

AGREE ...I agree with you londonalgiers. Since this is just a volunteer work, i can only handle papers. Al Swaidi Factory collects our office paper once a month and it is a good idea to collect papers from the public as well to lessen the waste in the landfills. Also, we just dont recycle our papers, we reduce the amount of paper we use and re-use if both sides not filled out yet. That's the only time we recycle the paper if its all used up.
Paper recycling is everywhere here in qatar but sadly to schools and some private companies only.

I agree with Londonalgiers, ...I agree with Londonalgiers, we need to use less paper, electricity, plastic bags, and polystyrine.
When i first arrived here I was shocked (now i am just angry) by the amount of waste being produced just at supermarkets. I hate the polystirine(sp) dishes used at the deli then it is put in a plastic bag and then another plastic bag at the checkout!
At the checkouts only a couple of items are put in each bag and you end up going home with 6 or more bags. I now tell them to fill the bags up and I try never to go home with more than 3 bags and only to use big bags so i can recycle them are rubbish bags. The checout people look at me as if I am stupid - lots of education is needed.

Paper recycling ...This is awesome! I have recently moved to Doha from the USA where we had active recycling programs, and I am now starting to look at recycling for our main office in Doha.
Would you please provide contact information for the "Al Swaidi Factory" so we can get a program going.
I believe the more people and companies that get involved, the more it will grow. Thank you for all the research.

Hello Everyone...good to ...Hello Everyone...good to hear that there are other people in Qatar who are interested in Recycling...we are setting up our bins in the office next week. AlSwaidi will be providing the outdoor steel mesh bins that must be situated outside the building/office premises which they could access for pickup of recyclables. Doha Plastic will also pick up recyclables but has not set up any arrangements yet.
I will post contact details on Sunday as i have it in the office.
Go Green!

SOrry for the late reply. was pretty tied up for a while sorting stuff. Please find below contact details. Just introduce yourself and ask them about recycling. They'll request a formal letter for you to fax them regarding your intent and location of pick-up point. 1.5m x 1.5m steel mesh recycling bin will be provided by them and must be situated at outside premises of the building or compound. They have been collecting recyclables from dozens of companies now.
