Ubuntu help
By thexonic on Mon, 05/05/2008 - 5:20pm
I've been using ubuntu for quite sometime now, I moved on from the version 7.10 to 8.04, but the only problem I have is connecting to internet, its a pain... Does anyone know how to get connected ?? I looked up on google and found millions of results, but not the specific one that I am looking for. So if anyone can help, I'll really appriciate it.

Internet ......Ubuntu ...If you have QTel ADSL access to the Internet, then I would suggest that you use an ADSL modem / Router. I use a Linksys WAG200G. The router is configured with DHCP and it is configured to make the connection to Qtel.
Then, any computer that I connect to the router, either through ethernet or wireless, has access to the internet.
When I installed Ubuntu, I had the computer wired to the Linksys router along with my other computers. Ubuntu found the router, got an address, and was able to use the Internet. I have found the same to work with Windows XP, with PCLinuxOS, with Redhat Fedora, and several other distros. The only problem that I had with Ubuntu was that it was not able to detect and install the correct drivers for my wireless nic in my laptop. PCLinuxOS is the only distro that has performed that function flawlessly. Ubuntu was able to use the wired ethernet connection though.
Without knowing your infrastructure, I don't know what else to tell you at this point.

I don't like to use wireless ...I don't like to use wireless on this 8.04 Desktop, so I use a UTP cable to the router...
