How Can I Get A Work Visa/Permanent Residency

Abdullah Al Saeed's picture

Salam,

How can I get a Work Visa/Permanent Residency In Qatar?

If I just landed, have some money, and a "Tourist Visa", but need a job, and plan to live here on a Permanent Residency with my wife, what can I do? How can I get a work permit/visa? What is a sponsor? Can I apply to work for a sponsor, or does the sponsor have to come to me? If I want to buy property in Qatar, what is the cheapest I can get? If I am buying a house or flat, but I am paying monthly for it using my salary because I dont have all the money, does it still count as me "buying" the property so I can apply for Permanent Residency?

I am a devout Hanbali Muslim of Moroccan/Iraqi (Iraqi grandparents) descent born in USA, by the time I get to Qatar, I will have an Associate's Degree in Business Administration, a limited amount of money with me (in cash), only a few bags of luggage (3 max.) with my belongings, and 1 wife.

I am fluent in American English, Khaleeji and Maghribi Arabic, and Spanish.

nepparaiso said nice qualification ...

so better apply on those big companies especially for the government like Qatar Petroleum etc.  Check also with Al-Jazeera Channel.  Most of the biggest companies here preferred speaking arabic applicant.  They are the one who will give you sponsorship.  Now a days renting and buying a house is too costly, please check leading newspaper and their classifed ads.

To buy a house your need a job! to get a job you need a sponsor ! to get a sponsor you have to search for a job !

Once you find a suitable job, the Company offering you a job will sponsor your on a residence visa (als called employment visa) only then you will be able to buy a property (subject to your income and bank approval)/ or apply for driving lic. etc..

SPEED is right. It's not possible to find a job here within the period of the validity of a turist visa. Even you are that lucky to find some, the offered renumeration will be far less than if you apply for job from USA or even from Morroco. So first find a job and than come here.

The qualification you will have won't, in all probability, lead to a very high paying position, particularly if  you come in as a local hire.  I agree very much with the above posters, get the job from OUTSIDE of Qatar, play on your language skills as your main selling point, and sign the contract BEFORE you get here.

Abdullah Al Saeed.....just buy an appartment in the Pearl.

You get Residence Permit automatically with the Appartment. So now you get

a house and an RP. Partition half of it and give it on rent. So now you have income too.....and you wouldnot have to find a job. The rent would be that

big.

Wow, JazakAllah for the helpful comments, but I dont plan to get a job with a Tourist Visa! I wanted to find out how to get a sponsor, for example, if I have an Associate's Degree in Business Administration, and I want to apply to work in the position of Data Entry for, say, Al Jazeera, how do I apply? If I apply and the employer accepts, can he become my "sponsor" or does the sponsor have to invite me?

samiko said The employer which eventualy ...

The employer which eventualy you'll find will be your sponsor. This is the rule and the practice here. The sponsor will arrange your visit visa and later on your RP (resident permit equal to work visa). Small appartment (two-bedroom) in the Pearl will cost around QR2,000,000.00 (QR3.65=$1). The Pearl is one of the few areas where you can buy property as an expat. So make you mind!

Abdullah Al Saeed said A Few More Important Questions ...

When I buy a property, does it have to be paid in full
?

And another question, does my apartment HAVE to be The Pearl, it is just WAY TOO Expensive for me! Can I just buy any one of those apartments I see at the online Real Estate websites, or are there specific apartments I can buy?

How much would I pay a month for one of the apartments/houses?

PM said You would not be able to secure what you are expecting ...

as a young kid 18-20 with an Associate degree from an American community college (since that is the only kind of college that confers those degrees). Think about it, you would be competing with not only other Americans who are much better educated, well educated Qataris and new Qatari graduates with Bachelor's degrees in Business Administration.

As for buying property here that would confer residency, are you a millionaire? Apartments on the Pearl start at close to a million dollars for the smallest ones.
Do you expect to be able to manage this with an Associate Degree. My advise is to aim high and get AT LEAST a full undergraduate degree (BA or BSc) and you will have a lot more opportunities.

Just renting a place will not get you residency. And renting a one bedroom decent flat (NOT ON THE PEARL) will run you about $2000 (USD) minimum.

Frankly, it seems you are very ill informed and don't have any idea how very expensive Qatar is. Your expectations in all regards seem to be far off the mark.

I do have an idea, as in matter of fact! I will try to be respectful from now on in how I talk, so I will say, instead of insulting you because I am angered by what you said, that I am offended when you said I "dont have any idea how expenseive Qatar is" I wrote this long ago, and I now plan on getting at least a Bachelor's Degree, and I will have enough money for an apartment in the Pearl, actually. I do have money, and I will get money in the future as well. I know how the laws of Qatar are and how expensive things are. I am not ill informed, and if I have questions, I ask and that is why I am here, to ask questions and not pretend I know it all, but I am not ill informed.
