baedaebok said Dig deeper ...

Hapy and Supernurse...do you spend the 1-3 hours each day doing something (or being) with your child where he is the centre of your attention? I'm not trying to be testy but wish to dig deeper. Watching a movie together is OK but I think it is an not a good example. I'm not the model parent b/c I don't stroke/coddle dd as much as I should.

I probably spend 1-2/day (like Hapy) in concentrated play with dd in these areas:

1) Reading books (me reading and she looking at pages);
2) Walking hand-in-hand around compound and visiting playground (I do get sidetracked talking to the other mommies ;)
3) Make crafts (using paperplates, pipe cleaners, glue,
paint, etc.)
4) Jumping around together or "singing"
5) Cleaning or picking things up

# 5 is important b/c we have housemaid so I want to ensure dd sees the importance of doing work herself.

baedaebok said Quality time when changing tires ...

Sometimes I also do that with dd. This happened twice recently:

1) I was folding and putting away my winter clothes last weekend. dd took some shirts and tried to fold them and lay them in the bag to be put away.

2) dd leaned over my back to "hug" me as I was changing a busted tire. She was interested when I was taking off the lug nuts.

But there should be solid time with dd -- reading, painting, dancing, singing.

nadt said I try to spend as much ...

I try to spend as much quality time as i can with my kids. I try to space the day into 1 hour intervals when we are home, one hour quality time(when possible) where we read, play, sing, dance,talk,take them to the playground etc and then i set them up with an activity ie art work or some toy so they can learn to spend time on their own and not become too needy and learn to enjoy time on their own. I use this opportunity to catch up on other stuff around the house, cook etc, so far it seems to work out ok, as i believe they grow up so quickly and i want to enjoy the time i have with them.

I try to spend time with "sweet pea" in playground or swimming pool.

But dd has an acute throat infection for the past few days so she's been crying and moaning. She's got a fever, stomach-ache, stuffy nose, and vomitting (sometimes).
