People assume I'm my dad's wife....!!!!!
Ok, I don't know how many people get this, and I'm not sure whether many of you will find this forum THAT interesting, but anyway-
I'm of a British nationality. My father is Scottish and my mother is Thai. I'm currently living in Qatar with my dad(divorced parents). My problem is, whenever I go out shopping with my dad or something, people assume that I'm his phillipina wife, because he looks European and I have a few asian features in my face, automatically making me a Phillipina. Aaaand it sucks.
It's come to a point where i don't feel comfortable walking around with him-which is pretty horrible, considering HE IS my dad. And jesus, I'm 16 years old, my dad's 57.
What will it take to stop this? Do I have to walk about town with a sign on my shirt saying 'I'm his daughter!!', or do i have to resort to acting like a five year old, so people can see me being immature and go 'Oh yeah, she's probably his kid.' Have any of you experienced things like this??
This has also happened at my school (my dad also teaches at the school I attend-but he's at the boys' section), where some kids continuously ask me if I'm his wife.
I have nothing against Phillipinas AT ALL. But I'm pretty sick of this. I don't look THAT asian. DAMMIT! LOL! Anyway, opinions please.

I am Filipina and I am ...I am Filipina and I am living with my parents in Doha.. but my mom is continously flying to and from the Philippines which means she's out of Qatar most of the time.
People do tend to look at us at times. I am 23 and I look 17 they think like I'm going out with this old Filipino guy and not his daughter. Do I care? Nope. Not at all. That's Doha for you!! People staring at other people! So, you're Eurasian what's wrong with that? Mixed nationalities is something to be proud of!
I think Eurasian's are beautiful people! There's that mix that is really something!

I remember 16, and it's ...I remember 16, and it's hard at that age to not be worried about what people think! But really it's about the only advice we old fogies can give, cuz we've been there and lived thru it...
One thing I can say is... it could be worse! I have a very cute Malaysian friend, married to an older American guy, old enough to be her dad. But a lot of the time people assume she's a...well, how do I put this politely... a "working girl".
So being mistaken for a wife might not be so bad!

i'm filipino by birth but ...i'm filipino by birth but lived half of my life in the UK & recently US. like you, i've got quite a number of eurasian friends who passed through the walls of stereotyping... here's trick that may work for you. complement your looks by vocalizing your brain! i'm sure people will look at you in a different way.
i particularly like kristin kreuk. a eurasian beauty with lotsa brains!

flipmaja ...This happens anywhere in the world and has been happening since... i dont know when. It does not only happen to you because you look eurasian and he is english.
It happened to me when I was your age and I went to some shops with my dad. Guess where this was? In Holland. Both of us are Dutch. So nothing to do with race here.
And do you know when this happened? Over 40 years ago.
So dont feel bad about it.
When it happened to me, my dad was more shocked than I was. He is such straightlace... I thought then it was funny.
What I am saying is that dont worry, you know the truth and you know you are his daughter. Dont care about what others think. They are the ones with the warped minds. Your mind is clean and that is the most important.
You will see that many times in your life people will say or do things that make you wonder, sometimes they make you feel bad.
You will learn to ignore them with time, but for now tell yourself: "I KNOW THE TRUTH AND ALLAH KNOWS THE TRUTH" .
What more can be important. Just remember that!
