URGENT ! Appeal for Myanmar Cyclone

Myanmar receives Qatar relief aid

Aid supplies destined for Myanmar being loaded by Qatari officials |
A relief flight by Qatar arrived in the Yangon airport in
Myanmar yesterday as charity officials reported progress in getting
help to the 1mn people left homeless by last week’s cyclone.
Qatar’s assistance, totalling 45 tonnes, included medicines, clothes,
tents, first aid bags, children’s milk. It was received at the airport
by the
chairman of the relief and rescue committee in Myanmar.
More shipments of Qatari assistance are to follow.
The tropical cyclone Nargis, which slammed into the rice-growing
Irrawaddy Delta region in the country’s south on May 3, left 60,000
people dead or missing and as many as 2mn more short of food, water and
supplies.
Myanmar held a referendum on a new constitution yesterday, despite warnings
more people would die unless it focused on delivering emergency aid for
survivors of last week’s cyclone. The military government, deeply
suspicious of the outside world, has refused to let in foreign experts
who specialise in getting aid to disaster victims, and said that only
the government would be allowed to distribute emergency supplies. –

Since th Cyclone Nargis hit the Myanmar, I was closely monitoring the
news. As reported in other medias, more then 100,00 people are dead or
missing and 2million people are short of food, water and supplies, the
situation is worsing day by day and more people are dying due to lack
of Medicines/ Food & Water/ Shelter etc... They are indesparated
need of these items as soon as possible.
I am in continuous touch with
Qatar Red Crescent Society. Today they confirmed that they are in URGENT need of CASH.
Due to some political reasons they are not able to transport goods to
Burma instead they are collecting Cash and sending money to their Red
Crescent Society office which is nearest to Burma. That office is
purchasing all the goods from there and delivering to the needy people
in Myanmar.
On behalf of QL Volunteer Group, I Appeal to all Qlers to come forward and donate whatever they can.
Please note QL Volunteer Group is not collecting or accepting Cash,
instead I have arranged a meeting point in the Qatar Red Crescent
Society office on the following day:
Sunday, 18th May 2007
Time : 17:00hrs- 19:00hrs
Location: Qatar Red Crescent Society Office ("from Museum R/A which is on the Corniche take right towards Mövenpick Hotel) They are next to Mövenpick hotel.
Contact Person: Mr. Falasi (mobile: 588 4707) or you can reach me on 660 4594 for any inquiry.
Let hope with our small amount of donation we can SAVE someone's
life. Let's spend our weekend entertainment money on Saving a life !!
PS:
Some Qlers mentioned to me that they have some stuff for donations, please note as I mentioned above that QRCS
is not accepting any material for donation. Therefore, I kindly request
you to keep those items with you for few days only, I am looking for
needy families or people in Doha once I come across, I will collect the
same from you and give your donations to them.
Also I am sending this message to all QLVG through emails. Please confirm by reply email or post here.
Thank you. and God Bless You All.

Agree with Mila ...I have been to Burma... I doubt much of the stuff will get thru to the right people....
I have a lot of stuff to give but I will wait until I can literally hand it over to someone like we did with the industrial area drop..

speed buddy ...wow. You are really becoming more dedicated in helping people. I would like to propose(if i have the right to propose i believed i am a member of Volunteeers group).
Our group should have a cooperative or legal activities as a source of fund to implement or establish so everytime there are disasters like this, in there we have small fund to share to those people.
And i think still we are small trying to grow so maybe we can cater the needy people in our area. There are still many people around us who are eating only kubos without chicken or vegestable; and still there are many expatriates who are risking their lives hiding without proper government documentations; there are many individuals from Philippines, india, Nepal, sri lanka etc. doesn't have job and tried to do some acts which will tempt them to do sin.
Before these needy human in Qatar will be tempt to be desperate and to do immortal sin, why we will not help them to help their stomach,to look for them proper job not not to go out evrynight to find people who have money to pay them, to care their dignity, to save them from sin.
I therefore conclude, i want to support the voluntary activities lead by SPEED keeping in view of the ideas i have shared. Thank you.

Mila Faith in GOD only ! ...We are handing over our donations to a well known International Charity Organization i.e "International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies"
Visit the website for more details: http://www.ifrc.org/
Burma is accepting donations from IFR and other Charity organization.
They have some internal political issues for which we are not bothered at the moment !
Our Faith is in GOD and I am sure our donations will reach to needy people and with our few donations we can save lives ..

Luckjinx... ...Well said.. yes i do have long term plans to give our support to needy and helpless people in Qatar. That will be our TOP PRIORITY ! I believe that we should look into our house first :p
But situation like this were Millions of people are effected in one night I think we should extend our support to them through whatever sources we can. This could happen to us also ?
May God keep our Countries and people Save from such Natural disasters !!

spicemon... ...if everyone of us start thinking the same way then who will help ?
We have hundreds of riyals to spend on our personal shopping or into pub bars every month. Have we ever give a single thought that the money we are spending on these things where the profit is going ? Who is the owner of the shop "May be he is a Mafia? or a Criminal?" no we never thought !
As you can see in the news above which i am quoting below again for your reference :
"Qatar’s assistance, totalling 45 tonnes, included medicines, clothes, tents, first aid bags, children’s milk. It was received at the airport
by the chairman of the relief and rescue committee in Myanmar.
More shipments of Qatari assistance are to follow."
Things are moving there and IRC is doing all their efforts to delivers the donations to the effected areas in Burman thru relief and rescue committee in Myanmar.
