most memorable restaurant in doha?
Hi Everyone
It is my wiffe's birthday this weekend and I want to take her somewhere special in Doha. We are both fairly new in town so we don't know every restaurant and so I would appreciate some advice.
Can anyone recommend a good quality restaurant in a special place. We've been to Pirates Cove at Sheraton and liked the setting, so you get the idea of what we like.

Afternoon tea at the Ritz ... ...Anywhere at the Ritz. Did you know they do afternoon tea's there too. 75 riyals plus plus. Nice experience.
They also do buffets .. about 150 plus plus ... not including drinks.
All the major hotels do Friday brunches.
If it's a nice afternoon, lunch at the Doha Golf Club can be nice. Sitting out on the balcony overlooking the course.
I used to love the Al Bandar Restaurants .. but they have been knocked down now. Which is a shame.
We also had a nice meal at The Italian Job at the Ramada Hotel.

The Italian restaurant at ...The Italian restaurant at the Four Seasons is very nice and elegant.If you tell them in advance it is your wife's b-day, they will have a little surprise for her. Very attentive personal.

stevewhit ...From what I've read on here this place has just opened and it supposed to be really beautiful. Don't know if all the restaurants are up and running but it looks worth checking out.

My wife and i have been here for quite a while and we've been in a lot of the better restaurants. If you want some recommendations, try:
The Sultan Ibrahim Fish Market at the Intercon - fantastic food - probably the best we've had in Doha
La Mer at the Ritz Carlton - great food but was very quiet
Sakura at the Ramada is very very good for Teppanyaki and Sushi
Maxims at the Ramada is also very good but very traditional
Porcini in the Ritz is good but very expensive
But if you really want something special, take her to Al Mahara in the Burj in Dubai - now that is something else :-)

with all your excellent replies..... ......my wife and I will have plenty of restaurants to try in the coming months. On this occasion my wife was poorly on her birthday, so we didn't get a chance to try any of the suggestions. But we will be doing so shortly and I'll feedback our opinions.
