Reasonable % for non active business sponsor

Hey all, I have a question for some of you old schoolers out there who might be in the know. A partner and I are ready to register a business and we are looking for a Qatari sponsor for the business but we aren’t sure what % is considered to be reasonable for his part. His part is his signature and nothing else really, we aren’t looking for an active participant in the daily running of the business just someone to sponsor it. Anyone have a clue what we should offer? My partner thinks 10% is ok I think that too much so we are sorta stuck on this point and need some help here. Thanks guys

10-15% is fair enough, He ...10-15% is fair enough, He might be a silent partner but you'll need him quite often for all the official and legal documentations i guess.

YEs Abuamerican ...10% is a fair enough deal mate...
If you find the partner do let me know of him, cos I'm looking for someone too...LOL!!!

I wont think so... ...Better you fix a fixed amount to sponser, insted of giving him some % then you can avoid his involvement in day to day activities.

fix ...i agree better fix amount

better to do another ...better to do another shareholders agreement that states the real shares, dispute what will be stated within the official documents, and apply the english law with arbitration in dubai or ur home country, just to be on the safe side. wish u the best.

Fix amount will be a bad ...Fix amount will be a bad move, you will be obligated to pay that amount to your sponsor even if your business don't make any profit especially on the first few months of your business. 8% to 10% will be the right offer.. 15% will be too high.

I agree with the general consensus.... ...Around 10% seems fair....I guess it depends on how involved he will need to be (in legal matters not the daily administration of the business)...and how well you guys can negotiate with him lol.
Best of luck in your new venture AbuAmerican!

10% of what, though? ...If it's 10% of turnover, that's going to be a lot higher than 10% of net profit.
Is the sponsor going to help the business in any way by finding customers, or is it simply a signature?
If it's just a signature, I would suggest a single payment of QAR 30,000 per annum.

agree with dohasteve... ...10% of the turnover is very high.
I know of sponsorship deals wherein they pay 2-3% of the turnover as sponsor's share.

I meant Net income NOT Turnover..... ...But yeah make sure you spell out the details so there will be no misunderstanding! lol

Yea we are looking at a % of ...Yea we are looking at a % of profit, turn over would be kinda tough to deal with.
The idea of a fixed yearly amount is really worth exploring and we never thought about. Thanks for the ideas and details.

Sponsership charges depends on type of business... ...If you are plaaning to give him a % he will start involving your activities, especialy he will be checking your bank transactions etc. wht I was sugesting you that fix an amout in normal case QRs. 3000 to 4000 in a month and he will start taking his fees after 3 months. that means you will get a period of 3 months to set up.
If you are going to start a business which requires sponsers support continuesly you can go for % basis.

fix an amount ...Its best to fix an amount rather than a percentage. I agree with 'expand' that your could pay a smaller amount for the first three months as you have to match a lot of overheads, and later on you can fix a better amount, maybe on an yearly basis. The amount usually depends on the business you are planning to set up and the turnover you expect to generate.
If you fix a percentage, it will be fine in the beginning stages, but later on, when your business grows, the amount you pay the sponsor will be a HUGE amount and that too for doing NOTHING! although I feel you WILL require a lot of help from his side to clear of the legal and interior ministry formalities.

BUSINESS PARTNERSHIP ...Are you planning to start a W.L.L.(with limited liability) company? If so, the percentage ratio should be Qatari-51% and foreigner-49%.
I would advise you to start a w.l.l co. as it is legally safer for u. (My dad has had some very bad experiences with partners)
I also insist that you consult with a good legal adviser before doing anything. Better be safe than sorry later!

Sponsorship ...Dear Sir/Madam,
May i know your term and agreement regarding business sponsorship?
Thank you

i cant give you %age ...i cant give you %age figures, but im sure youd only think of that after calculating your annual expectations.
And further evaluate your sponsor by KNOWING what he will actually be able to give you, esp visas and administrative assistance (theyre bound to become major upsets in most cases)
all in all, good luck!
