Voltage
By melissaphoto on Mon, 12/05/2008 - 9:39pm
I am visiting soon with my husband to decide whether we would like to move to Doha. I am confused about the voltage for my hair dryer/curling iron. I'm sure I need to bring a converter. Does anyone know what kind? I'm coming from the states.

Leave them at home? ...Are you staying in a hotel? Most of them have hair dryers anyway. And the humidity is just gonna undo whatever you've done with the curling iron, lol! I haven't used one since I came to Doha 8 years ago.
But you can get an inexpensive converter at Target or WalMart, 220 v.

Yeah, don't use your weight ...Yeah, don't use your weight allowance for a converter, but the appliances here, or if you must have home appliances, buy the converter here. They are easily found.

Mr. Red Pope ...Are the converters easily accesible in the PX on base or are they provided for each housing? Just wondering if its ok for you to give me a little insight.

Javi ...I bought my converters at Radio Shack. No issues so far with them. They got two Radio Shack stores, One at the City center mall and another one at Salam mall near Lulu hypermarket.
They got a good assortment of electric plugs sizing outlets for those British style outlets that most villas use.
The converters they are selling, varies on amperage requirements.

javi ...Just use your international hand signs, memorized all the landmarks for navigational purposes and learn to talk to them in primitive and ancient kindergarten English without slang, they will understand you better. J/K
Just tell them the name of the mall.
