Bringing Family to Qatar

fonzfam's picture

My husband is considering taking an job assignment in Qatar. I have 4 children 12-5 years in age. I'm asking for any ideas, suggestions, or experiences that will help us make an informed decision. I think it would be a great experience. My husband has visited Qatar a few times with the military and enjoyed the area.

Make sure you find school places for your kids before you come here...they are as rare as fairy dust over here...

A sense of humour is just common sense dancing, sadly, common sense has left the building and is dancing somewhere else.

We are currently living in Texas. My husband is inactive Air Force. He was in Qatar on R&R during deployments.

You absolutely have to get schooling paid for. 4 kids in school would gut your wallet! Places in the school are another story. If you husband works for oil/gas company, then they usually buy up places at the American School for their employees. American school is outrageously expensive and is the only one that follows the American curriculum. They have a website. Also try checking the "Qatar Schools Database" on this site and you can do a search on here as well. Also, try www.expatwomanqatar..... Try searching on their too. Lots of info. Most schools have websites. Some of the main ones are American School of Doha, Doha English Speaking School, Doha College, Parkhouse, Compass International, Qatar Academy. Any questions feel free to PM me if you want.

PWB78 is absolutely right. Get the kids registered in school should be your first priority. Make sure your husband’s package includes schooling fees for your kids. As for the rest Doha is not a bad place to live

Eve said Safe place for kids ...

Qatar is a good place to raise children as its safer than most places, but now things are expensive and if they want to do alot of activities it can get costly if its not like school events. Plus now traffic is much like Houston with pollution to match. The good days of Qatar are over the infrastructure is small and now too populated. Only if your husband is going to make alot of money and the school is covered would I consider the move.

Highest fee in American School of Qatar. Example year 1 fee 62,000/QR.

Second thing that house rent to much high in qatar. If you get 3-bed room villa for rent the monthly rent appx. 18000/QR.

Now you have to check that your husband's company providing kids school fee and house rent or not???
