Coming to Doha - without the family!

Oh my God. I must be mad.
Oh well, necessity is the mother of all bizarre decisions, or something.
Anyway, I would appreciate some assistance. I've had a quick bez around the forums looking for info, but it's a little lacking in my specific areas of interest.
I am coming over to Qatar (well probably) in July or August. I am currently in Dubai, having been here 9 months. It's too expensive, too shallow, too everything. Anyway, my company want me to move to Doha, but I've heard that it's expensive there as well, and with another child reaching school age, it's becoming impractical to live here as a family. Sooooo. What does that leave? Going back to the UK? Mmm. Well, I forgot good old Mr. Tax Man, didn't I. I'm sure he won't forget me, though. Oh no. So my only option is to send the family home and work here on a batchelor basis (probably eating lots of soup).
The biggest question is - how much will I get a place for? I would only want a one bedroom studio or something. Even a house share. Someone told me they have lovely rooms in portacabins at Garveys for not very much. Don't know if I fancy tht, mind.
Any advice would be more than welcome.

budget 5000 ...for a batchelor accommodation. Best if you could share a villa with other expatriates.
