Massive Rental Charges of Houses, Villas & Flats

IOU's picture

I don't really understand why it's really getting expensive the cost of living here and also wonder how long an Asian expat like me will survive to have a decent accommodation in Doha? How can you accept a 2x2m shared room for Qrs.2,000 a month? or a 2x2m room for Qrs. 1,500 in Madinat Khalifa while you are working in West-Bay Area. A 3x3m in Najma for Qrs. 2,500 and you will live with a couple with children? ****SIGH***** You would probably say "You should go back to your hometown" most probably Ï will

the landlord use to earn pretty much from the DSM say the stock market once and alot of ppl made alot of money from that. since the market is gone down and never getting back up again as it was b4. so they oppted this way now to meet their heavy expenses by rising the rents thats the only option they have. think about the coming one Al Rayyan area is goin to be abolished soon in 2 months where are the ppl going to live and u see the loooooooong line of car wash on gharaffa street even they got to move soon. life is gona get more harder here now.

It may take a few years but things will work themselves out, they always do. More and more companies will start to opt not to provide housing and will just pay a stipend...this will cause people to pay more out of pocket and then they will give up and leave. Pretty soon it will be hard to get people to come here at all. When nobody comes then prices will have to drop...lol. Right now it is just supply and demand. They supply it and demand ridiculous prices:)

They charge it because they know they will get it, but eventually, when all their properties are standing empty, they will be forced to lower rent or starve.

hamlet said they wanna kick us out ...

It is very clear guys....they simply want all the low and mid income people to get out of Doha and go to live on the verges of the city...all the heavily populated "poor" areas are either demolished (el bidaa, el remaila and wadi el sail for example) or under demolish (Meshairab) they want only the high income people to live in Doha thinking that this will create a gloss image for the country. Accordingly in few years all the residents of Doha will be either nationals, westernes, and possibly the so called "elite" of Arabs (Lebanse any one!???) while the rest of us will be pushed to live in the far away mass housing projects currently being developed(Barwa city, Barwa affordable housing, labor camps...etc)

Barwa project is only for the Govt servent not for the private sector forget it if we will get anything :P

AA said Where to live? ...

Hi Guys,

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to rent a 3-bed unfurnished villa close to Doha English Speaking School for 15000 max? I think this the Markhaz area.

I am planning on taking a job in Doha in the next couple of months so will need to find suitable accomodation for a family fo 4.

Also same question for ParkHouuse school. Not sure what the area is called but it seems to be in the southern part of the City.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

AA

Park House is in the Abu Hamour area. You should be able to get a 3 bedroom villa on a compound for Qr14-15k no problem.

Noble-Man said Rental Issues ...

The Law of Supply & Demand won't work here. I studied Economics before but I'm still puzzled when it comes to rental costs in Qatar.

The super expensive rental has eaten up not only potential savings but also quality of life as people are forced to reduce their monthly expenditure, including food consumption. Worse even, high rental has robbed family unity and harmony as it has forced expatriates to send their families home and stay on Single status.

The earnings in Qatar Riyal are also shrinking as QAR continues to be pegged at 3.65.

The only way out is to leave.....but I'm wondering still, why are new expatriates keep coming ? Are they not aware ? Or do they not have any other choice ? Or they just couldn't be bothered until it becomes too late ?

i saw some adds in the local newspapper that baraw is launching a new project in the west bay area near the citycenter for 3500 Reyals the 2 bedroom apps .. but the only problem is that it will lauch it next year .. so i guess we all have to wait till the prices goes down ..
but to tell the truth i dont think it will soon ..

baedaebok said Unbelieveable rent increases ...

It is unbelieveable that rent still increases. The government keeps promising that they are working on keeping it down...but nothing happens. Even the laws to protect the tenants have no teeth. The reason is that the government is focussed on keping the locals (i.e., the landowners) happy. So, no real reform happens to the rental laws and practices.

I'm thinking of renting a villa but the landlord wants one-year rent in advance -- with a separate maids quarters ;). The per monthly rental fee is high enough at QR35,000 but the one-year Q. what would happen if he just walked away with my money? Is there any legal recourse?
