How do the English Feel

When they hear Indians speaking English in supermarkets with their kids while delicately moving their slender necks from side to side.
With apology to all Indians

Actually its not just ...Actually its not just Indians all nationalities have their own peculiar way of speaking English. You talk to aperson on phone and know his nationality by the way he speaks English.
Mean like Egyptions have some jerky way of saying the letters like, TNT = Tee ENNA Tee
The filipinos, Front= Pruont

Prettyeyes.. I hope we're not offending! Accents Rule! ...I love accents.. and dialects.
I'm seriously in awe of people who take on English as their second.. sometimes third language. I have two 11 year olds in my class from Poland and they put most of the others to shame:) 'Meees? Folderr?' Adorable and incredibly cool.
Hats off:))
Future hubby has to have an accent. That's no 1 on the list...

Speaking English ...What i find amazing here is i am English but hardly anybody seems to understand my English. I am from the South of England so no strong accent, fairly neutral in fact !

aw freon ...it's such a nice accent too, DH is from the south too so I know what you mean, sometimes he has a problem making himself understood :)

hahaha Mr P ...DH has a mixed accent, soft southern with a bit of yorkshire thrown in, says things like "thats yourn" meaning thats yours etc, weird but I love him for it :)

Accents are great... ...This one about the scots explains it all>>>>
What about the Glaswegian that goes into a bakers and asks the woman, "Is that a cake or a merangue?", and she replies, "Naw yer right son, it's a cake!'

I think we are lazy ...Compared to other nationalities, we just don’t want (or can’t) speak another language. English language is I think, one of the hardest languages to learn, so I admire anyone who learns English as their second language. Whooooooo and I love their accent when they speak English!!!
MR PAUL said
I always thought English is easy to learn.... ...Take French, yer have different words for male female, but also they male, and they female.
I think thats right. Does anyone get what i mean ?

lima foxtrot said
Sorry Mr Paul ...you've lost me :) But there again, it's not difficult :)
brandylady said
me too ...did french at school but was 15, c,mon, the lads were more interesting than female/male verbs etc ;)
lima foxtrot said
Lol Brandylady ...so true. I wish now I had learnt French at school, I think the language is so romantic, especially when the French speak English :)
MR PAUL said
Thats it, male/female verbs !! ...We had to recite it....Started with Me, you , he, she and ive forgotten the rest...French is a dead language anyway !

i remember French classes ...not for the actual learning but my friend and I had bought brass rings from a shop in the lunch period and took turns rolling them down the lid of the desk until they dropped into the ink well, ah memories, the projectile board rubber soaring across the classroom and hitting my lovely new blazer leaving a big white chalky mark :)

Ha ...the problem that it's neither Yes nor No.. it is just the cannot even start speaking without moving their heads...
even if they have to pronounce only one word, they start moving the head first, prior to saying anything..:)

zyga... no! ...No no no no! London accent? No thanks. S Walian, Geordie or Northern all the way. .. London? Don't fink so:)

But you know, I noticed, ...But you know, I noticed, they can rid of this habit quite easy when they are integrated in other nationalities' environment.
Those who deal with other nationalities a lot, they stop doing it. But those who just came from India.. omg.. I am getting dizzy in 5 minutes of conversation…
and also this constant "no?".. i had once this cleaner, he came on Friday morning and started cleaning the house. In 1 hour he say: I have to go now. I ask him: why you have to go? you didn't finish cleaning yet.. and here it is: "I AM MUSLIM, NO?".... it was actually funny, like he asks me if he is muslim or not.. i honsetly said: "I don't know.YOU tell me whether you muslim or not..."

The head movement ...Many have asked me about it. Its all in the eyes and the facial expressions. If you are Indian you will understand whether it is a Yes or a no. As for the accent well English is not our mother tongue so as long as you all understand what we are trying to get across its OK. Then there are plenty of us who speak extremely well because of your educational and cosmopolitan background. As for me I just cannot understand the Scottish.
PS- Just one more thing have you got a mail or a letter from the English. Just the other day I had asked one of my English foremen to take an inventory. Two days later this is lying on my table"COMPLETE INFANTRY". I nearly fell out of my chair laughing. Man some of them their spellings are pathetic. They spell it the way they pronounce it and to think English is their language.
