Unclean left hand
Why is the left hand considered "unclean" in Islam? And what should all the left-handed people do?

It's interesting as I have always known ...that using the left hand for passing things, etc was taboo but I've seen many Qataris (and Saudis as well) use their left hand for passing things to me. I don't even think about it and have yet to receive any dirty looks or reprimands. I do, however, refrain, from propping my feet upon the desk as I would at home as I know that really causes distress (showing the soles of my feet)and once was caught in the act in Saudi and severely spoken to...oops!!!

In islam we use the left ...In islam we use the left hand to clean ourselfs after having used the toilet, the nose. Therefore we concider the left hand unclean for eating (using the hand) nor shaking hands or give someone something with the lefthand. This is a matter of islamic culture & courtesy and quite logic if your are familiar with its use.... Now if you are left handed and you are among moslims and you would be eating with your hand like they do, try to eat with your right hand, if you can not do this, just explain to them why you use your left hand and that you use it for this only. Tell them that you use your right hand for all the other business......People will understand! Also dont make an elephant out of a mouse. People are quite understanding once they know that you understand their culture. It is only the lack of understanding that gets people upset.

I had trouble with this ...I had trouble with this issue in Kuwait. Was at a check-out holding onto a bunch of plastic bags, etc. Got my wallet out of my pocket and held it in my right hand and passed the bills with my left while holding my wallet and stuff in my right. The shop owner got very angry and wouldn't take the money. I was always sure to use my right hand to pass money after that in Qatar...
Interestingly, when I was in Turkey, I did the same thing at the check-out, switching money from my right hand to my left. The clerk asked me if I lived in the Gulf. I said yes. He said that I didn't have to use my right hand for passing things in Turkey and that the ban on the left hand was an Arab culture thing and not an Islamic thing.

Well what you can do is when ...Well what you can do is when you hand someting with your left hand and your right hand is holding something else. Put your right arm on the left arm and that will show the person that you understand there culture. That is often the most important issue.
Roadtripper, why do you have to be so negative and say that the live in the dark ages. Dont you know what the word culture means? Maybe because you do not have any and that is why you give such rash and dumb answers.

Hero: I'm a sinner as everybody else, no one can say that He/She is pure or clean, but some people keep forgetting that or you don't belive in God/Allah's justice? And no, anyone saying that God/Allah told him to punish someone, than that person is a liar or has mental problems, think God has shown several times that he doesn't need humans to do the job in his place.
