Sweetheart relationship period

dmigtysolomon's picture

Lately, I see a lot of mixed couples either in the Corniche or in malls, specifically in City Center. Mixed, I said because usually it's of different nationalities. Mostly asian women with non-asian guys or asian to asian but not the same nationalities.

By their movements, you will know that there is something more than a friend relationship going on between them but you could easily recognized that they are not married couples (their PDA's is high).

What is your comments/observation regarding this? I think in a Islamic country such as Qatar, a single (or unescorted) woman is not allowed to be seen with a man not his husband. Just like in the provocative dress thread, are these people really testing the limit of patience of law-implementation here in Qatar? Just curious!!!

anyways alot of mixed people have been going around together since ever..not a new thing, as long as they're not offending anybody who cares, is not as if you can drag these people to court and forcefully marry them off lol

but if they're being openly brazen about their PDA's then am sure the security management or CID's usually handle these kind of matters

when I say about mixed couples, I am highlighting that it's so obvious that they are not married yet (presumably) and in Shariah laws (correct me if I am wrong), a girl or a woman seen together with a man not his husband may bring some negative consequence as what happened in the Saudi incident.

I am not talking here of differnce in race, in religion or whatever.

Saudi is an extremely conservative country.. to the extremes.. why is it so hard to understand that all the other "Islamic" middle eastern countries are not like it? yes they do have a set of rules one is to follow and respect but they do not have it to the extremities of saudi arabia..

now as to your comment on these incidents wll lead to what happened in Saudi.. No they will not.. the only reason they lead to that in Saudi is because of toooooooooooooo much NO NOs... and we all know that it is human nature to want what u are not allowed..

take this from a person who has lived in Saudi.. experience life there 1st hand.. lived in a non islamic middle eastern country and now am living in qatar...

let me make it easier for you, remember the case of the "abusive" teacher deported. That's one. Second, the Qatari who murdered three people in the road and got 9 months jail sentence, don't you find it weird. Other cases I read here in QL.

What I am pointing out here is, do not give the local residents more reasons to complain about the ways and customs of expatriates. Let us be (more) sensitive to the laws of this land.

Yes, I agree with the others that Qatar is not as conservative as that of Saudi but still the justice system here is still Shariah laws and who knows when will they reached their limit of "unconservativeness" or level of modernization in terms of PDA's. Mine is a reminder that we are in an Islamic state and we are not pretty sure how they look at these modern ways of PDA's which is very much common in our home countries.

A couple walking akimbo(arms in arms)?
A light kiss on the lips before parting?

and I am not guilty of all the negative comments. It's just showed how ignorant are them in the context of the thread. If that's what they feel, they are all entitled to their own opinion.

But I can assure you, they miss my point in the thread and they just went to personal tirades again. I am not affected.

Mine is just a precautionary measures that we still need to be very sensitive as to the customs of this country. Yes, we already live in a free society (or are we?). And as I've said, we really don't know the tolerance of the present administration as to the limit of "freedom" they want to implement.

Like the provocative dress thread, a section of the society already "outpour" their sentiments in the council and although still under debate, you can still feel that there is a certain sector of the Qatari society that is still "conservative" when it comes to some ways we, expatriates are behaving in this country. What more about such PDA's being shown by partners in public places (I just hope that the posters in this forum could visualize the difference in the PDA being display by "mixed couples" as to PDA display by married ordinary couples).

For Ilovefonzie, is your comment for the thread or are you making a personal one against me? Does that shows maturity in dealing with the thread or you are just just fantasizing other matter that you can not comprehend my thread?

For the others, you are all entitled to your opinions and I respect your views although you don't know how to respect mine?
